Anyhoo… go to Silverton CO in summer and just about every vehicle you see is a jeep with Texas plates. So there’s one place
Thank you my friend!

I have been a bit disappointed with the lack of National / State Parks trails, but understand that is part of the Texas fabric.

I generally run the unincorporated beaches and off road parks (Barnwell has been my favorite) . I am more interested in exploring the Arkansas State Parks. I watched the Ozark Overland YouTube Channel and enjoy those videos.

I use the off-road parks as a testing ground, but for me, I'm more interested in the camping and sight seeing adventures.

Agree there are other states easier to find places to wheel, but we don’t have some of their problems either. I’ll take living in Tx over any of them.

We also have a RZR and do the beaches around Corpus (the National Seashore beach is 60 miles long and can get sketchy) and Matagorda and trails at Hidden Falls several times a year. We like Big Bend NP and exploring the Terlingua Ranch roads while out there, and have a couple friends with ranches we can wheel at some.
Heading to Silverton CO right after July 4 for a week. Can’t wait.
Our group out at HF.

I am in the Houston area and working my way down the coast from Louisiana. East Matagorda Island (Egret Island) is my furthest point south to this point.

Where do you enter and exit the beach around your area? Sketchy how?...deep sand, rocks, run out of beach...?

We’re 3+ hours from the beach, but there’s dozens of places to enter the beach on NorthPadre Island. For instance Port Aransas keeps their beach groomed nicely and it’s very wide. The farther you go south the less groomed and populated the beach is and it can get rutted up and loose from people spinning their tires on purpose and or 2wd cars getting stuck. When you enter the National Park farther south it has one way in/out and goes about 60 miles South to the end of North Padre island. It is never groomed that I’m aware of, Almost zero cell service, and can get very rutted up and sometimes narrow (you can’t drive on the dunes). 4wd is required past a certain point. So far we’ve only been 30 miles down because we were by ourselves. About 22- 25 miles down into the park is Big Shell beach where there are lots and lots of shells….more shells than sand. My wife’s favorite beach.

I recently went down about the first 20 miles of the National Seashore and it was hard packed the entire drive (low tide) and driven in 2WD before turning back. Yarborough Pass is closed because of the recent rains. and It may have gotten a little softer further down but I didn't have the time and I was honestly quite bored. Probably go back in a couple weeks and camp a night

I need to go back to Barnwell Mountain.

I broke all the rules. That was my first offloading experience. I went there alone in my truck and no other rigs (on a Thursday). I got myself lost and was way over my head on some trails. My truck was unscathed, but my nerves were absolutely wrecked…

I've been to Big Bend National Park and Merus Adventure Park. I've heard of but not gone Northwest OHV park, Hidden Falls Adventure park, and Wolf Caves

Back to Barnwell Mountain? I need to find Barnwell Mountain :). But as usual, with my location, it is 8 hours away.

I originally started this thread as a tongue in cheek poke at TX and the lack of public land but during that time I have found quite a few places to "off road" in TX. Hasn't changed my opinion about the public land issue but they are there.

I thank everyone who has pointed out different parks and recreational areas here were you can actually "off road" in TX!

There's Merus Adventure park up near Amarillo - but like others have said, you're just not going to find a lot of EASY ACCESS wheeling here in the Lone Star State. CO, AZ, NM, and UT yeah..... BUT WAIT - very few mention the Ozarks/Arkansas/MO.... pretty good overlanding up there but still not much rock-crawling.
