Study by Anderson Economic Group shows (at current gas prices) that EVs cost more per mile than ICE gas engines -even when the EV is charged at home. Caveats: the study used residential electricity prices in Michigan. Rates in other states may vary. Study only measured fuel costs (not oil changes or any other maintenance; or MSRPs for ICE vs EV; or reliability). Study did not measure environmental impacts or any other factors. Just fuel.

Mercedes-Benz is reportedly backing off its promise to make exclusively electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030, according to a company statement put out on Thursday. This follows a string of reports over the last few months indicating that the auto industry is getting cold feet on the bold EV promises they made previously in cooperation with pressure from global environmentalist institutions.

Free at home here. California. Solar paid itself off in 3 years. The next 20ish years = free EV charging and home electricity. Gas is about 5/gallon currently...electricity soars to 65c/kwh in summer. Solar is life here.

100,000 miles in the Tesla will cost 0 to charge... the Jeep...yeah I don't want to calculate that and shit myself....lol

Not sure how that makes sense. Apples to apples comparison, my jeep costs 16.5 cents ($3.29 per gallon / 20mpg) per mile, while my tesla runs about 7 cents (75kw x $0.28 per KW / 300 rated range) before electric charging rebates (prob closer to 4 cents after the rebates). This is purely based on epa vs epa estimates. I don't get 300 mile range on the tesla all the time and I surely don't get 20mpg on the jeep, but for the sake of pure comparison I did rated for rated.

It's just oil companies putting a Soviet grade propganda war on.

IBM's legendary FUD wars come to mind too.

Paying it off in 3 years is really a commentary on the high price of electricity in CA. If they set the electricity rate to $25K/kwh, a person in CA would break even on solar in minutes.
10k/year of savings is pretty easy with just 1 EV and A/C useage in the summer. Miss our nuclear.

2 EVs? If both commute you could save an absurd amount of money. If they make a PHEV Gladiator with 50 miles electric range I am IN.

You can gather numbers to prove almost anything, taking stats from a single state and leaving out all possible variables - lame.

Over 85% of our electric is renewable, approaching 100%. Rates are dirt cheap.
Why don't they figure national averages and include maintenance on ICE engines?

My son loves never having to do an oil change, no transmission oils or fluids, etc.

This has been hashed to death, over and over in dozens of threads and even in many dozens of posts in unrelated threads every time anyone even whispers "4xe" suddenly haters come out of the woodwork.

Is the whole country ready for full EVs? Heck no!
In a few years, batteries will be far better, last longer, far longer ranges and we'll slowly creep forward.

Roughly $3,000/year for our whole house, AC, heat 4xe charging, my shop's electric, my wife's quilting equipment and a whole lower level with many fluorescent lights (old style)

Cheap! CA rates are only headed 1 direction.

I think my light bill in a year is maybe $3,000. The last solar company wanted $40,000 for a system adequate for my house. Ain’t no way it would pay for itself in 3 years… not here. I also only spend about $20 worth of diesel every week. Maybe it’ll make sense one day, but not today.

40k = 28k after Fed writeoff. Keep that in mind.

Other than the Jeep, being immune to OiL wArS when it comes to personal transportation is awesome. Was killing us when gas was $7/gallon.
