So, recently finished up an install of Infiniti Primus 693M's with MB Quart adapters in my soundbar along with Infiniti REF 307F's in the dash. These 6x9's have a good sensitivity rating (93db) and relatively low power handling (60W RMS).

I get it the stock 7" head unit is under powered for the 6x9's. But, in my opinion they should sound way, way better. The bass and mids are abysmal.

I'm thinking the sound bar is just too small of an enclosure for 6x9's. I really wish I would've just done some 4 inchers and 3.5's in the bar.

The 3.5's up front sound pretty good but also like they might explode out of the dash at any moment. Have some bass blockers on order for those. Also have an HS10 from trail seven being delivered soon. I'm sure that will "round out" the system and everything will be fine. But was really expecting more from the 6x9's to fill out the mids on this system.

Long story short, I don't think it is worth the time and effort to install 6x9's in the soundbar. Now, that is what I'm stuck with.

Do you run an amplifier for the 6x9s? Idk what the stock head unit is rated at but I can’t imagine it’s enough to run 6x9s… I have jbl stadium 6x9s in my roof bar with the matching amp and they have plenty of power and sound pretty good. I also have 2 jbl powered subs under the seats similar to the hs10 and I would say the 6x9s have almost as much bass as the subs

No amp. Will probably have to install one at some point. Will see what happens after HS10 and bass blockers up front are installed. Hoping it will be good enough after that.

The 6x9ā€s do look good though :). Had some help from my oldest on the install, that was fun and brought back a lot of memories from my younger days.

Try this tiny amp. I added it to my 7ā€ and could not be happier. Everything now sounds amazing.

I’ll probably have to. How’s was the install? I’m guessing it’d be best to do any kind of 4-channel amp the same time as the HS10.
Pretty easy. I bought a T harness from a local audio shop so I could use that for splicing. You’ll also need load resistors to trick the head unit into thinking there are speakers there. No rca outputs, so the amp uses speaker level outputs and has its own level settings.

Doesn’t matter what speakers you add to the system, 40 watts is 40 watts. You can’t make it any louder without an amp. You can certainly make it clearer, but it takes more power for Db.

For the record I have no clue if it’s 40 watts or not, but I’m sure someone will come crying about me being wrong shortly.

My audio guy estimated 16 watts per channel for the stock 7ā€.

Sensitivity varies quite a bit between speakers. The exact same size speaker could output 89dB from a 1 watt input or 95dB from the same 1 watt. Add in the resistance may be more than stock further reducing output. An amp will help make up for inefficient speakers or higher ohm loads just the same, but it's not a simple "x" watts equal "y" dB output equation.

Biting the bullet and having a local shop install the HS10 and a 4 channel amp. Was driving around today and the current setup is just so damn bad.
You’ll love it.

Mb quart 6x9s are 86dB sensitivity and 4 ohm, infinity ref 6x9s are 93dB and 3 ohms. One would be nearly twice as loud off the factory head unit than the other but blah, blah, facts are too hard for some. To push an inefficient speaker output up by the ~10dB to make it twice as loud you need 10 times the power. Sure buying the wrong speakers and then throwing a 150 watt/ch amp at them is one way to do it.

With the difference in sensitivity ratings between the two sets. My infinitis should be better (louder at least) than the MB's, correct? I'm honestly asking, because I have no idea.

Thanks,
