Recently my 6 months free Sirius XM trial ran out, so I have not had the radio on much. To my dismay, there is a somewhat disconcerting detonation between the 1 and 2 shifts especially. It does it at low throttle input and low rpm. I cannot always reproduce it. I want to try to record it. Sometimes it is LOUD with the windows open. It's that marbles in a can/jingling metal sound. I'm just over 6k miles. I feel like I've been hearing this at times before with the windows closed, but man is it loud when they're open. It only does it for a second or so, then goes away.

Had the same problem on my 3.6. and like you said it is loud.
The first time I heard it was pulling a off road hill in 4L at altitude with 91 octane.
I could not believe what I was hearing considering the altitude with 91 octane.
After some research I had read that the blow-by from the PCV system can and will contaminate the intake air stream and lower the octane levels. I was skeptical to say the least.
I also read that installing an oil catch can will remove the oil mist and clean up the air stream. I Installed a UPR oil catch can and after install ALL detonation is gone. NOT one ping. Gone.
The can must be drained often to avoid oil build up in the can.
I raised the can and added a 4ft 1/2in. drain hose with a ball valve keeping all the oil out of the can and in the drain hose.

It was doing it bad yesterday, so I tried to take a video of the sound last night. You can hear it towards the end of the video at 15 seconds, but unfortunately the tire and engine noise with the phone outside kind of mutes it. It's a very loud marbles in a can thing. It's always at the same rpm, around 1800, light throttle and in 1st gear before shifting to 2nd. It is always with the engine fully up to operating temp.

Install a UPR Oil catch can and I bet it will be gone. It solved my detonation. 100%
With the UPR you can leave all the original hoses in place and if you have to take it to the dealer simply remove the can and re-hook up the factory set up.
