Too small to be perfect, for VHF it would need to be minimum of 42" across or 1/2 wavelength dia. Well maybe it is in one direction if the top rails of the bed rack are electrically bonded to the plate. In theory you have the perfect ground plane... let see if it works as in theory!
While I agree it not “perfect” it’s gotta be better than having it down on the cowl, right?Too small to be perfect, for VHF it would need to be minimum of 42" across or 1/2 wavelength dia. Well maybe it is in one direction if the top rails of the bed rack are electrically bonded to the plate.
Maybe more even in all directions but the cowl might be better towards the front. The hood is large and the cab is mostly fiberglass, so its not as bad as you think. While I agree it not “perfect” it’s gotta be better than having it down on the cowl, right?![]()
i realize my original comment might appear as a knock on your setup but it wasn’t. I was talking about those fender/cowl mounts that hang off the side of the hood.Maybe more even in all directions but the cowl might be better towards the front.
