Has anyone been through a total loss with their almost like new jt? In short, saved up for so long and literally sunk our entire savings into getting the jeep I've always wanted, which was actually very very hard to find. (took us moths looking all over New England having so much trouble finding a 2023 Gladiator Rubicon in Sarge Green color which is what I've always wanted to get (or similar army type color or dark green etc, so it had to be that color, a hard top, Sarge Green WITH the Alpine system etc totaled 8 months later with only 10K miles on it. What should Insurance be paying out? Msrp: 63k.

The longer write up with more details: Also had Bed liner, Bed cover, Hard top w/slider, mud mats, all your normal options and was Automatic tranny. 3.6 Gas engine etc
MSRP: $63k. Extra "plans/warranty etc" = $4500 as we were keeping it for the long haul and due to a major injury, unfortunately I ended up out of a job and could not work, wife worked her ass off to barley. 8 Months/10k miles later me and the family hit got into a single car accident after a tire blow out/losing control. Luckily all seem fine medically. Crazy part, they somehow totalled the thing! Now we literally sunk our life savings into this thing due to credit reasons and due to wanting the payment to be feasible and waited months of searching every dealership in New England to find one in this color with those options, finally had my dream car and then Boom! Gone! The other strange thing was when I originally had it towed I looked it over top to bottom and it didn't seem like much damage other then some front end parts. With the first adjuster coming out with only a couple thousand estimate to fix, but wanted a second opinion and had it brought to a Collision so the Collision Center tells me it's arrived there and they're going to pull it all apart and see what it needs and get me a number but then two days later I get a call from the insurance adjuster who says he's taking over my insurance claim and this is where things get weird....A second adjuster went to the Collision Center allegedly "before the collision center had anytime to look it over, and even though I asked for their second opinion and wanted a write-up and had it towed over an hour to have this done, the Collision Center told me they never got to it because the adjuster came out the next morning before they were going to start working on it and declared it a total loss so they "didn't bother". No call from them, no replys from email. Just a random message from a second appraiser, Who told me it was completely totaled. Needing A WHOPPING $40k in work?! I went over that thing for hours checking damage, body was MINT. Springs everything look all lined up and I wasn't even sure if the scuffs on the front bars were even that bad. I was checking everything underneath the Jeep we as well. Was excited it didn't look bad, started perfectly, Ran, checked all fluids which were good etc paint but it couldn't be driven as the front two wheels were lopsided so it obviously had front end damage, well I get the loss reoo report it's $40,000 in work!?! The crazy thing was when they asked me to go out and get my stuff, my truck was extremely F'ed up! The paint all messed up, golf ball size dents around the rockers on both sides, fenders all loose, disconnected front end parts, and then back... it literally looked like someone had put a 10-ton rock in the bed as the rear frame was completely bent, the axle and suspension did not even line up with the Jeep, one side sticking far up into the air and the other side almost completely down, the calipers were hitting the wheels so the wheels couldn't even move which made no sense to see all this damage that was not there beforehand and then be offered a total loss from insurance and have the Collision Center that I had it brought an hour and a half to never even looked at it and said it was a waste of their time, and when I asked him why it's a waste of time I wanted a second opinion and that's why I brought it there ? He said as soon as insurance comes out and calls it a total loss they no longer mess with the vehicle so he couldn't do anything for me.... The whole thing was heart breaking! Especially with the insurance adjuster offering $43k for it and when I responded letting him know that it is so rare to find that color with the Alpine in a rubicon ( I searched almost every single way you could and everywhere you could including an all state search and the most I ever found was 6 of them across the entire country! The all were 2001/2022 with 30-60k miles for $33-45k and then found a single replacement that was almost identical to mine. Same miles almost exactly, same options missing only a few things. They were 1700 miles away! And wanted $49k for it! None in new england at all. All black Mainly, white, Red and so on. This Jeep seems to be more damn rare then finding a Max Tow Sport gator green! Long story longer my message that guy telling him 43k would be losing almost everything we put down on it, I mentioned that we paid $4,500 in additional warranties and stuff that the dealer says is linked to that vehicle not me so they won't refund it and the adjuster responded that the color doesn't factor in, that the vehicles I was looking at are what I want but not the actual vehicles market value and finally said that they don't pay for the warranties or any of that stuff and I would have to take that up in court with the dealer if I wanted to pursue it but they don't have anything to do with that. Now this is the thing if I wanted to get a black or white Rubicon with those exact options it would have been easy as hell but I hated both of those colors and I always wanted the dark green which is why I bought another Jeep literally because I loved the color and I love that stereo and I finally wanted to have the top oem Rubicon setup! So you can go online and on the market you can find thousands of black ones or white ones and buy them for thousands less then you can a gator green because they're not rare to find and they come a dime a dozen! So to me it doesn't make sense that the Jeeps market value isn't what people are charging on the market for that color in general, let alone with all those options and only 6 in the whole US?! And only one 2023 with those options currently online and I have checked every single search engine car search I've even individually looked at a bunch of different dealerships to see if they had different inventory than what was showing up on Jeep site for instance and I found one more that was sold already which was on for 51k USED With 7500 miles.

The whole thing seems so messed up and backwards, and all the damage at that Collision Center was insane to see when I had just looked at it the previous week and it had almost none of it.... now if I go to replace my Gladiator with another Rubicon Sarge green with the premium audio system Etc, it's next to impossible. And the few that have been available or that I have been able to find were both above 47k.

So does anyone have any insight on the adjusters tactics or what might have happened here? We just bought the damn car eight months ago and it has just over 10K miles and now the insurance company expects us to lose like $2000 after paying the remaining loan off/my deductible which isn't big or anything. I've been a customer for 20+ years with no accidents at all until this seemingly small accident which was literally blowing out a tire, sliding off the road, hitting something on the ground then into the side of the woods At about 40mph, not even enough impact or craziness for any injuries. Myself and my wife's next have hurt a little bit especially at night trying to sleep I've been using ice packs but I never went to the hospital or thought anything of it. I mean this vehicle is supposed to be able to be trailed and rock crawled and do so much crazy stuff that seems like it would just crunch it into pieces with how flimsy the Jeep came out of this. Back when I used to go off-roading in my Cherokee xjs I used to beat the living crap out of those, coming down on rocks hard, I've done so much with my Cherokees and never had an axle brake or any major fixes.... anyways I'm going off topic, is anyone in here A insurance adjuster or has any insight on how much the Jeep is worth? And if that's true that the color doesn't matter they only will give you market value on a gladiator Rubicon model, but don't care about the value of YOUR actual vehicle that's totalled? Another slightly weird thing is on the paperwork it says at fault 50/50? The tires had 10k miles and we're in perfect shape so where the wheels. No low tire indicators any leaks. No idea how it's partially my fault that a tire blew out? I also asked this of the Collision Center and they said they didn't want to get involved but that it had something to do with my valve stem? The last time the tires or anything was touched on it would have been it's first oil change and rotation at 6k miles. Anyways again if anyone has been through this with a recently purchased JT, please do respond when you have a chance. Thanks all!

Wow…sorry, I really couldn’t focus thru all that…. Glad you are OK…sorry to hear the heartache you’re going thru….that sucks!

When the accident occurred, did you contact YOUR insurance company??
Your insurance company should’ve been involved thru the entire process - as they are the ones who should be coordinating getting the truck ‘adjusted’ and/or repaired. There are reasons why insurance companies only work with certain shops / adjusters / repair centers.

Did you call the police and get a police report??

Your insurance company should be the ones contacting the ‘other insurance company’. If both insurance companies can’t agree of ‘whom’ is at fault….- and since you mentioned 50/50…... Your insurance company should PUSH to have the claims put into arbitration. Arbitration is where a 3rd insurance company is called in to review the information/data and make a final decision of whom is ‘at fault’.

You (as the person) shouldn’t have to do anything….or get involved with the process at all. At least…that’s the experiences I’ve had in the past.
But then again….all this will probably depend on what insurance company you have.

Just my thoughts….😉

The market is the market and it sucks right now for used Gladiators.

$43K is a fair price. All the other emotional attachment and life circumstances you are putting into it and your financial pain to acquire it in the first place does not factor into what your vehicle is worth vs. the next person in the same situation.

People are buying new 2024's for what you are getting offered for that total buyout of your 2023.

Edit: You should be able to get a prorated refund for any extended warranty you may have purchased. Usually the selling dealership finance person should be able to help you navigate that if needed.

I just lost my Ram, caught fire sitting parked on a block heater.

Insurance pulled up a half dozen other Rams like mine, made an offer in the middle of the average.

Replacement cost is what most policies pay.
Actual Cash Value is probably more common for autos.

In our state of Michigan, the vehicle must be less than 3 model years old to have Replacement Value. After that, it automatically changes to ACV.

You may already know this but make sure you have recepts for any aftermarket parts installed. Provide these to the adjuster.
