Ok so what does it mean if resetting my tazer has brought it back 100% of the time? Am I just lucky?
Tazer didn't cause it, but resetting the tazer, because of how it remaps things, may have reset and fixed it.

If tazer was the cause - then why have so many of us without a tazer had the same thing happen?

MAYBE the tazer people need to add a function to their marketing "can fix your missing mpg display"

An added bonus, lol

I'm musing that maybe when writing the software they had an unused alternate page built that they decided not to include but left the code in the program and it somehow defaults back to that from time to time. Resetting with the Tazer would restart the program and revert back to the original code until whatever is causing the alternate path to execute.
Just speculation on my part because I seriously doubt it's something intentional but being familiar with code I can see something like that happening.

I'd wondered about that the first time it happened and I figured out it was not just a missing current mpg, but that the range had also shifted over. It if was simply a missing current mpg, wouldn't the range display stay put? Instead, it's moved over and all on one line, not two.
Makes sense.

You should see some of the stuff I found in the video driver code for OS2 in the early days. Man,, some programmer was a former sailor.........

A hack is a hack is a hack.
🤣

part of my job is writing post processors for cad/cam software. I am guilty of writing a quick work around when I needed something done right this second that I had to go back and clean up with proper logic but I hate doing that and would rather take the extra time to do it right and make them wait a little longer than have to take the extra time later.

My 22 JTR had it for a week, then it disappeared for months. It’s been back for more than a year, until yesterday. Missing in action again. No Tazer. It is an OCD thing but, surprisingly brings a smile when you’re going down a long hill with your foot off the gas and it says 99mpg.

Have any of you tried rebooting the truck (disconnect both batteries for about ten minutes) to see if it corrects the display?

I don’t care enough for it to go through all that. It can be handy if you’re trying to gauge your current fuel usage but it still has the green bar to show current mpg

I'm pretty sure this gauge disappears anytime your vehicle has a Check Engine Light and/or a code. I had a faulty aftermarket air intake that kept popping CELs and the instantaneous fuel economy reading would go away both anytime the CEL was illuminated OR when there was a 'suppressed code' - one that is present in memory, but not triggering a CEL. The intake was intermittently triggering codes and if enough mileage was covered between triggering events, the instantaneous economy reading would reappear, only to disappear again whenever a new code was triggered.

I replaced that intake and now have retained my instantaneous economy display ever since.

Nope…that’s not the issue either. My JT is 2024’ with only 3,200 miles on it. Current/Instant disappeared a couple weeks ago and re-appeared last week while we were on vacation. I have a tazer and that’s it…no other electrical work or mods. I updated & reset the tazer before we went on vacation (at that time, the current wasn’t showing). It still wasn’t showing up traveling on vacation. It came back right before we were driving home.

You can very well have codes that haven't tripped a CEL -- you'd be surprised what you find with a scan tool.

I have a Tazer and I didn’t see any codes or messages. What would a scan tool be able to show that the Tazer wouldn’t?

Yeah, I noticed a recurring code using an OBDLink MX and the Torque app for Android that didn't appear when using the Tazer engine codes function. My guess is that the Tazer will only list true CEL events, but I haven't gone through their documentation to be sure on that.

My instant mpg came back today. :surprised: It's been gone for so long. I forgot all about it. It's been about a year.

Mine still hasn't come back. I don't even remember how long it's been.
