Why not use the usb port in the center console. Pop up a wireless charger to the “top” tray and rest your phone in there?

Or go with the sanctum wireless charger kit.

When I need to charge I just use the port in the center console and keep the cable wrapped up In there and feed it out the side hole.

my concern with my phone on the dash would be it over heating and shutting down

Sort of defeats the point, perhaps?
I don't want to open the console more than needed and like to lock it at times.

As opposed to a closed console? Does it really get more hot on the dash? It's got air flow there.
Hmmmmm.......

Direct sunlight will cause it to heat up much more than charging.

Guess it's not been a problem with mine.
OTOH, mine gets really hot on a charging pad compared to the cable.

I considered that a couple of weeks ago. My phone with case was too big to be practical for my tastes. I also wanted to see my phone’s screen.

I get minimal window blockage with the horizontal setup.

So far, not issues with direct sunlight.

I also mocked up a cigarette lighter adapter with a MagSafe charger on the end so that the phone could be mounted behind the shifter. Again, my phone was too big but it would have worked with my smaller work phone. I don’t think it would have been too hard to wire it up and 3D print a cover to hide the internals.

Wireless charging is less efficient than wired charging. Power dissipation during the charging process produces heat.

iPhones have built in thermal management to mitigate this issue.

That's a given.
Induction which itself generates heat - AC then must be converted to DC.
It's a lossy method for sure.

Why THAT location, instead of out the front or whatever. But the passenger side?
