I used the off-road plus in 4 lo for the first time. Does anyone else find it noisy?

I opted to put my JTR in manual shift mode instead and control the descent that way instead.

No unexpected noises here. I wish I could engage Offroad + and enjoy improved throttle response at will. It would be handy on forest service roads in the manual.

As far as I know, the changes made by Offroad + are purely software related.......are you sure the "noise" you are hearing isn't just the physical engagement of the gears?

The noise reminded me of the ABS sound on ice

Were you using the hill decent control? That can be loud and sounds like abs because that's how it works. Off road+ itself shouldn't do anything like that.

yes it was on a descent. I am wondering if this is normal.

I didn’t try it on a flat or uphill due to the downhill noise

Did you also feel this in the pedal? That would seem to be a bigger issue, if so.
I was going downhill. I didn’t hit the pedal as I was tying to let the jeep do its thing.

Sounds like you were using Selec Speed Control perhaps by accident? It's this button right here:

Jeep Gladiator Off Road Plus Noisy dc177887-27be-4160-ad0c-4d941a3221df-jpe

You shift over into manual and then set the speed anywhere from 0.6-5mph. (Shows near the top of the middle of the instrument cluster.) The idea is you can use it when you need steady inputs when going up or down an obstacle. Part of that is that it can control each wheel brake and that's the noise you are probably hearing. I've used it a handful of times, really handy downhill but can get jerky sometimes using it going up. Very nice to focus on steering and not have to worry about power management.

Offroad + changes throttle response mainly along with some traction changes. It won't make any sounds.

Thanks all.

I was using the selec speed, so I suppose it’s normal for the mode I was in.

HDC/Selecspeed or any of the other brand's permutations of the same concept usually come with a variety of grinding type noises. I've heard the system on 4th gen toyotas tended to be quite pronounced. Nothing wrong however, the manual (your friend) describes the system and notes the noises. On really steep loose downhill runs it's very handy, allowing the truck to modulate the TCM and ABS/TCS hardware that are otherwise not exposed to the driver's control.

The sum of the parts is one of the better implementations of the technology available. I'd love to go back to colorado and run some of the routes in the JT that were sketchy in my old subaru just to experience the difference in capability. The JT is so capable it's hard to know sometimes whether the road is easy or the truck is just making it seem so.

I have used Off Road Plus and Down Hill Asst many times and love it !!! Just got back from a big trip to Colorado use it the whole time , Red Cone , Webester & Schofied Pass .And it does make and awful sound at times but is totally normal . Its definitely a slower pace and if ride with group and you stick with ( crawl Contral ) your the slower one but ride quality is much more enjoyable .
