What sucks about both hoods is the extra height of them. I really don't like the loss of visibility around each since they're the taller hoods, plus less accessories fit.
My wife will hate that. She already has that problem with my Mojave but some of that may be due to the 1" added front height of the Mojave JT, too. I even notice the differences and it can cause visibility issues sometimes.

I'd rather have the plain steel one than the "vented" aluminum one that corrodes and bubbles the paint. When I end up taking mine in for the corrosion that is starting on it, I plan on asking about changing it out.
I thought ALL hoods, Sport, Willys, Overland, Rubicon, High Altitude, were made of aluminum.

Whether that has changed with the ongoing tariffs, I don't know.

Jeep export hoods are steel, at least they were ! Export is mostly standard type hood the basic hood not sure if Rubicon is available as export.

Not a thing to do with tariffs.
Jeep has used steel hoods on the Mojave JT and the 392 JLU for years.
Now they are mixing things up - and it's likely due to the fire that cause aluminum shortages for Ford.
I'd bet it impacted FCA as well as that's when the mix and don't bother matching BS started.

And I can't figure the reason for that.......... the hood profile, I can see due to their pedestrian protection laws. Even the bumpers are different for export.

I pulled the build sheet for this JLU. This hood was a no cost option on the window sticker.

Had STEEL PERFORMANCE HOOD PACKAGE in build sheet

LOL - so they ARE putting the Mojave/392 hood on the Rubicon.
No cost option - it's not an option, it's forced on you............
At least on the Rubicon X, period, you have no choice in the matter.
The more I see, the more I'm thinking my wife will refuse the JLU if it ever arrives.
I like it on a Mojave, and I knew going in what I was getting, and I am taller and can more easily deal with the extra height driving it, but you should see her trying to park my tall Mojave............
The Mojave has 1" lift in front, and the extra hood....... the JLU will be lifted 1.5" with 1" taller tires and then the taller Mojave/392 hood on a Rubicon? LOL
Oh, Jeep - hire some people who don't have their heads up their butts on options and packages - clean house, hire people away from Ford if you have to.

I scraped the Jeep inventory window stickers, and as I can tell they started adding the steel option to Rubicon's in December production irrespective of VIN.
Changes like this I think are great. I like looking at jeeps and knowing what approximate model year they are, based on features.

I agree. I have a Rubicon on order. If it arrives with the "optional" hood I will not take delivery. This would fall under "arrived with option not on customer build sheet".

They were. Except for Mojave. But they’re now starting to put steel hoods on rubis, which it sounds like was a norm across the pond.

You order a Rubicon, you expect it to arrive as a Rubicon with the Rubicon hood and COWL.
It wasn't a choice when ordering, so it would be a change unknown to the customer ordering it.

Is a non rubicon an option?

Edit: I mistakenly thought this was Bill’s post. If you want a Rubi, you clearly have a good reason. I personally would accept it. Yours would be unique. Just use it to negotiate price because they changed something after you ordered.

Not just a Rubicon steel hood, a MOJAVE/392 Steel hood and taller cowl and so on.
Jeep has lost their freaking minds - lying on the window sticker, and tossing in "free options" that the customer would not ever expect.
Have you noticed -
if you buy a Rubicon X or Mojave X the sunrider is no longer an option with those two
but if you buy a plain Rubicon, Mojave or Sport - the sunrider is an option
and
you can now order the tonneau cover without the sunrider being bundled with it?

Jeep keeps bungling things!

Why is it an option on some and not others? Hmmmmmmmm, veeeery interesting.......
And why can you now get the tonneau cover without the sunrider? (but for 25, you we HAD to get that or a $2,000 trail rail package)

Again, quite interesting.

their options, accessories and package people need to get their heads out of their asses.

I haven’t looked into it, as I’m not in the market, but it definitely sounds like consistency is out the window. But I’ve always been a lot shopper. If never special ordered in my life. I enjoy it, and have never had an issue finding the features matrix I want.

I used to find stuff on the lot I liked and wanted - but in recent years, dealer lots just don't have my combo of equipment and options. Jeep has really screwed that up.
You used to be able to buy a Jeep and it came with what you wanted based on the level you bought. There might be a package or two to add, but if you buy level YYY, it had everything you wanted.
Not any more. Jeep has totally f'd with that idea. and year to year, there's ZERO consistency!
If you bought a 2025 at level A, a 2026 at level A would be very different as far as options.
They just can't figure it out with the newer leadership.

I could be wrong, of course, I'm not my wife - but I have a feeling she's going to tell them to go to hell and keep what she's got.

If I was her I would. Except I’m not a fan of the 4xe whatsoever. It’s not ev hate. We have two. But that platform has been a mess from day one. If I was her I’d go after a Sahara, from what you’ve said about her wants.

The transfer case is the thing............. that's the only reason I mentioned Rubicon to her and the dealer - I knew you could get it with an X package like in the JT.
But this mess? Wow.
There's just not a way for her to deal with the manual transfer case in the winter. Even her 4xe, that thing stays in 4ha all the time (for power reasons, too - it de-rates in 2H)

Jeep is really messing things up.

Now, if they'd build her, as an adaptive equipment thing - as Sahara with the SelecTrac, we'd be soooo all over it, really. They couldn't take our money fast enough.
I'd even pay Jeep to put the SelecTrac in the Sahara - it would be money well-spent, still be cheaper than a Rubicon X with all that stuff on it.

VERY VERY serious - @JeepCares - build my wife a Sahara with a SelecTrac transfer case, call it adaptive equipment, tax write-off or charge us for it, whatever, you'd have a deal.

Otherwise, they are likely to lose a customer........... other companies have done special builds for the handicapped. Even if it costs the same as a Rubicon, won't matter.
What's it take for Jeep to build a vehicle with ONE change to it to accommodate a handicapped person???
