Mojaves didn't come with a Diesel.Ya'll are all fun to read about!
I wanted a Diesel Mojave in 21.
My first Gladiator drive was a sport JT 3.0D with NADA. Not even heated seats and mirrors. At 65yo in Seattle, oh hell no. Did have a nice price. I didn't even know what I didn't know yet. Just been reading about the 3.0. Bought the wife her Bikini JLU 2020 2.0T about a year earlier. (only took passing the dealership 3 times over several weeks before the Husband understood he was buying "THAT JEEP")
So she says, wouldn't you like a jeep again? Now long story short, I miss both my 76 CJ5 and my 86 CJ8 "Scrambler". Wife got in a bad auto accident (in a regular car) and at (2) years post accident, she still couldn't walk near one. Going kid broke, they drove down the lane into another persons love and comfort.
SO, I decided after looking what it was going to cost me (15-30k+ to build, or 50k+ to purchase) a CJ8 again, off to the dealership for One of them new fangled Gladiator's, oh and I wanted the new diesel (3rd generation ya know). I would be trading in my Loved 2013 Ram Sport with the 5.7, finally paid off and totally rebuilt (except the engine and trans still humming at 160K) by my dealership, another long story. If id known the 3,0 eco diesel was in RAM 1500 and got 25mpg, I would not have had a 5.7! But they came out about 5 months after I purchased mine.
So again, my first foray at the vaulted (new almost a Scrambler with a nicer interior and supposedly ride) was the Sport. It was ok, at best. No complaints but totally basic model, oh did I say how cool the price was? Only 38-ish! So a week goes by after telling my wife I stopped by the dealership.
The next weekend as we are passing the dealership on the free way, and I see these beautiful JT Mojave with the hood scoop and all the extras. What's that, I say with GLEE! Next thing you know, we're riding on the freeway with the sales manager. Learning all about this Just released GLADIATOR Upgrade. On, difference between the first and second ride in a gladiator could not be understated.
I WAS IN GLADIATOR LUST!!
So we're back at the dealership and the sales manager is working the deal. Oh about our 10th car from their dealership (they have learned to like us). We get to the price and I say, YEP----IF you can get it with a diesel 3.0! I was standing firm!!!!
3 hours later we finally, after she made a million phone calls, get the FINAL ANSWER- NOPE, no diesel in the Mojave, cause of the fancy under carriage can't handle the weight.
The frown on my face was so visible! Well you know sales managers, She says, NO PROB, You take that 21 diesel JLU just outside the double doors for a ride (Rubi with every option avail). You decide what you want on your Rubi JT and we will order it just the way you wanted it. (Small side note-I had no clue the difference in the Mojave vs Rubicon ride or nutin at this point) Sure I said, that sounds good. 'I'm hooked!
So she grabs one of her little newby sales kids. tells him: "you sit in the back and keep your mouth shut". We'll take care of them when they return.
So the wife and I jump into this loaded JLU diesel Rubi. It was nice but I was looking at all the options to weigh them for adding to the Gladiator order. So we spend 30+ min driving around checking out every option. And now its time to head back and start the process. (guess what happens next?)
We get on the on ramp, as as we head for the freeway I ask the wife, whats this button here. I don't know she says. I push the button and the SKY invades the entire jeep, OH MY! (I haven't had one of my open roofs since I purchased my 2013 ram. Had no clue how much I missed that sky)
As we're pulling into the dealership my wife is looking at me and saying "This jeep is following us home, isn't it?" Apparently I had a grin from ear to ear and my eyes were just shining brite! OH yeah, that 65k jeep followed me home.
So Yep, took me a while for my JT fever to catch back up. I went into denial based on the One top for a while. After about 2 years I realized, we would be buying a JT after we paid the other two off.
Took a while, but now have been having a blast with our Snazzy1 for about 12k miles. What caused it to jump into our driveway before paying off the others (another long story), me-The Diesel, her-the color (wife loves it, but not as much as her Bikini), and the 2" MOPAR Lift and big wide 35"x20" wheels. Oh and that price again, yeh, not the smartest fellow-used this time (with a 100k mile after market warranty of course), 65k with 26k miles on the odometer and some add on's. But who puts a price tag on smiles?
Hope you all had a GREAT Christmas, and about to have a Great New Year!
