Underbody Sprinklers - for underbody cleaning…..

Does anyone have one of those ‘underbody sprinklers’??

How do you like it? Is it worth it??
What brand and/or where did you get it??
Does it use the regular hose, or can it be hooked up to a power washer?

I like to keep Izzy clean….. Granted, I don’t mind regular dirt, mud, dust, trial dirt, whatever.

I have one similar to this. It works, but in hindsight I wish I had bought a bigger one. Or maybe not, because wider/more nozzles means less pressure.

I also have a cordless Dewalt pressure washer. It's not a ton of pressure, but it's cordless, and can draw out of a bucket. I use it for rinsing the salt off the body in the winter. This way I don't have to turn on my outside water and then blow out the hose again after I'm done, and I don't have to do it in my driveway where the water will turn to ice.

I fill a an old 5gal paint bucket with warm water, put the lid on the spout, toss it in the bed and drive over to another part of my property. I don't have power or water there, but I also don't care if the ground turns to ice when I'm done. 5gal is just enough to rinse things off. I've never tried hooking it to the undercarriage sprayer though. I don't think this thing has enough power for that.

Have a cheap one from Amazon I throw on my gas power washer, works great…..when it comes to power washers, gas all the time, electric just can’t compete with the power of a gas one

While I don't disagree in general (some of the high end electrics now are better than the cheapo gas ones), there are also other things to consider. Like:

• Living in a climate where temps are well below freezing when you probably want to most use it

• Keeping a shed or garage heated is expensive

• Winterizing a pressure washer properly after every use is time consuming and not without costs

• You probably don't want to store a gas-powered pressure washer in your house to avoid winterizing

With the electric, I just drain what I can, and carry it down into my basement. Simple. Also don't really need or WANT too much power for washing your vehicle. I've seen people blow the paint right off with too much pressure. Like I said earlier, even the stupid little 500psi cordless is fine for washing the dirt and salt off.

Whatever happened to using an oscillating sprinkler and moving it every 10-15 min? I hate and avoid mud now, but I did that for years and it works. If I couldn’t find a creek crossing or standing water to blast through

We have a wall mounted pressure washer setup in the garage. When it’s in the 30’s or colder… I’d rather be toasting my butt near the fireplace.

We’ve done foam & rinses before in the 40’s….. but that’s my limit (pending my mood). As a last resort, I’ll take it to a ‘drive-thru’ wash with an underbody blast.

I just clean the dirt and grit off it every time I climb underneath for a torque check or to modify something. I find that if you look right at the clumps of dirt while you turn the wrench they will come off and hit you in the eye almost every time!! All it costs you is a steady stream of curse words and some momentary blindness.

I just realized that you were talking about salt. When I lived in CO, I did the automated touch free car washes with the underbody spray after every snow storm. Thankfully, there were a lot there. I always had my outside water turned off in the winter. In the SE, I turn my outside water on and off based on the long term weather forecast.

We have one of those automated touch free washes down the street. I tried it once…. Paid $8 and it was absolutely horrible!! Never again….Truck didn’t look much cleaner than it was when I went in. The cleanest part, was on the sides where you could see the ‘circles’ from the side swirly sprayers.

There’s no way you could wash your car/truck after each snow storm. That’d be useless. Cuz….. around here, the snow doesn’t stay long. They load up the roads with salt (and other crap mixed in) and as the snow melts, the roads are covered with nasty, dirty, salty water. You could drive in that shit for weeks after a storm pending weather, snow melt, rain, etc. You know how that is… You get behind other cars and that ‘mist’ covers everything!

In CO, we had 300+ days of sunshine a year and a lot of good quality car washes. It wasn’t that bad.

I have one of the low profile underbody sprayers on wheels with a few fan shaped nozzles. Nice for a sports car.

But for the Jeep I am really happy with this. Spins really fast as it sprays. Only two nozzles so pressure keeps up even with a modest pressure washer. Works great for spring cleanup! Here is a link with more photos and videos. LINK

Hmmm….. We have a similarly looking - round sprayer that hooks up to the power washer. It’s specific to scrubbing & cleaning sidewalks. Works perfect for that… Makes me wonder if I could flip it upside down….. put it on one of our bucket trolley’s……
