So question for you guys that have had issues after re-gearing. I had my truck geared from 3.73 to 5.13 and after a bad whining came on around 45mph on the cost. The shop told me they wanted to replace the rear gear set. So after a few weeks they did. They called and said it still whines and they wanted to replace the bearings just to be sure it wasn’t a new bearing that was bad. Yesterday they called and said the noise is still there and they think it’s the transfer case. They never mentioned the front or touched it since the first swap. They are trying to pinpoint the noise to an axle by removing the drive shaft separately from front to back. Idk what that will accomplish but ok. Before all this no noise was present on stock, with the lift or the tires that was done in stages. What do you guys think? Truck has 2800 miles and they have had it almost 2 weeks combined so getting a bit frustrated here.

FYI, their Yukon gear sets

Removing each drive shaft separately will definitely narrow it down.
Is this a private shop ?
Maybe you should take to a dealer ?

Sounds like they don't know what they're doing or hiding something that they had done incorrectly. Might wanna take it to another place for further troubleshooting.

Need to post the patterns, BL, Pinion preload to diagnose.

These pinion bearings are known to be suspect and finicky, especially with aftermarket swaps.

My Spicer 5.13's did a little "Alien Saucer" sound for the first thousand miles or so after my swap, but it went away when they got broken in. I did the same thing and swapped pinion bearings and crush sleeve 100 miles after I did the swap to no effect.

Did you must have also had to replace the crush sleeve also. Wow then you would have had to pull the axles and everything to do that. Holy Moly.

Most dealers are over charging and their technicians are overworked and many times under trained to do real diagnosis. The good techs open their own shops. Not to mention implications to the rest of your warranty if you openly admit to allowing a 3rd party shop open the diffs and replace gears.

Yea probably didn't have to, but I was questioning my previous pinion bearing preload already and didn't want to do it a 3rd time to redid everything on the pinion.

yes- I worked at a shop during college and learned how to do them then. Our lead tech was a dodge tech
Great skill to have I've never learned that. I can do a ton of wrenching myself but gears never was something I got into.

I called a shop a month ago about gear sets and they got pissed when I said I didn't want nothing to do with Yukon.
Yukon has got that stuff in alot of Gear shops.
