Hello for anyone that finds this!
I recently installed a WOLFBOX G930 and while I do like it, I wouldn't say that I love it. There are some issues I have with it, and although a normal person would just return/sell this thing and get a factory-made unit that checks all the boxes, I apparently am a sadist and have decided to bend this one to my will and make it do what I want it to do. This thread will act as a journal of my journey just for funsies, and hopefully will help anyone that comes across it, so buckle up.
Firstly my setup: Wolfbox G930 10" mirror paired with the Model 179 OEM bracket as well as the OEM G930 Bracket. The 179 bracket is made for Jeeps specifically so you can replace your factory mounting arm. This however is not compatible with the G930 because the back plate for the mirror itself is different from the other wolfbox models. Because of this, I had to buy the G930 specific OEM mount and cross pollinate the two of them together. So 179 mount mounts in the stock location to the jeep, replace the 179 back plate with the backplate from the OEM G930 and you are in business. Not going to go through a whole install writeup but if you have questions let me know.
My biggest gripe is that the camera itself is mounted to the mirror. Because I have the ACC module, much of the actual footage for the front camera is a big black box. I thought I could space the mirror down far enough, but when I did that, it put the mirror fairly low, and I liked that even worse. Again, I know I should just get something that I can mount under the ACC module or on the windshield itself, but as I said, I already bought this, and I like to tinker. I have done some cursory research and think I have an idea how to "fix" this, but that's a problem for future me to figure out.
Next problem to solve is where to mount the rear cam. I already have a backup camera, and it works just fine, so I didn't have any reason to add another one the the bumper/tailgate. I recently installed a JCR Half rack, figured that might be a good place to mount the rear cam. So, like a completely normal person, I used some sticky tape and stuck it on the rack... wrong! I overanalyzed the fact that the way the stock mount works, it was either sticking out or sticking up or facing down and basically was hideous to me. That and I just imagined tree limbs or car wash brushes snagging it and ripping it off. So I noticed there is a perfectly centered hole on the back of the rack that would shield the camera from all of the things. So, like that sane and normal person I mentioned before, I made a simple mount with some angle aluminum and mounted it to the existing cross rails and called it done. Oh wait no I didn't, I shirked my responsibilities at work, spent days designing, printing, testing, redesigning, reprinting, retesting, etc... to end up with this thing.
So this is where we are currently. A completely covered mount for an already water-resistant camera that already came with a mount. This is still a test piece, so this is just standard PLA that I had lying around. The final product will be ASA and will be black to match the rack. I will get this installed this weekend and will update from there. I think I already foresee an issue, but I will hold off on that for now.
