Update: As of 10/09, they left a sorting center in China.... no updates since. I'm guessing the late Oct or early Nov timeframe is accurate. D:

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. I'm curious to see if these things work.

Alright, so the grommets are in! I am super busy today, so I don't have time to properly mount one... but, I *think* these will work. It kinda seems like they will sit a tad squished, but that's ok with me. I need to find time this weekend to pull the cable to get this installed properly. Once I do, I'll report back.

Also, assuming I don't screw one of these grommets up, I'll have 3 extra to ship out to people who need them so they won't have to wait a month like I did. I'll keep you all posted though - hopefully will have one mounted by Sunday!

Thanks for the info. Once it works(if it does) then please let us all know and be certain to copy in @JeepCares so they can get 20 or 30 thousand of them ordered so they can then get all Gladiators fixed and squirrel protected. Send the link so Jeep knows where to get them from. Thanks much.

Curious, which electric rodent deterrent are you using?

@JeepCares The engineers contention that debris will fall out is valid for debris that might blow into the opening . But mice and chipmunks will find the tailgate a very nice home. They will pack a corner of the tailgate with nesting material which will rot the tailgate from the inside. The same thing has happened to other cars I have. My WRX hood rattles each time I open it, my Scrambler frame had nests in each frame rail, and my tractor air box needed to be cleaned out until I started using an electric rodent deterrent.

We as owners should just be proactive and cover the hole, or get one of those electric rodent deterrents. My 2020 Jeep Scrambler (F' it, I am calling it a Scrambler) will be a weekend toy or used sporadically so I need to keep the critters out.

I work in manufacturing and realize that "just adding a 10 cent grommet" is BS. By the time the entire the engineering-procurement-manufacturing process is complete, those grommets are 10's of thousands of dollars of inventory. I would be surprised if Jeep stepped up and provided us all with a grommet or made a TSB to have the dealers do it.

Kevin:

I have had this in my 40 year old JD garden tractor for almost three years. I haven't found a dead mouse in the air cleaner nor seen them all scurry out at start-up since I installed it. It can drain the 12V tractor battery over a month or so to require a jump. When it detects the charging system operating, it shuts off. There is also a setting for audible or "silent" noise. I am getting another one for the Gladiator as soon as it arrives.

I noticed it too when I saw it sparking when I opened and closed it. Thank goodness I didn't have my gas cans in the back like I usually do.

Alright, I finally had some time to work on the grommets. I attempted to take the panel off above the hole, but mine is practically welded on by the bed liner. If anyone wants to remove that panel to try and cut a proper hole in this grommet, the torx you need is a T-30.

Being I couldn't gain access to the tailgate without possibly damaging my bed liner, I decided to simply split one open with a razor blade and core out a section just slightly smaller than the wire and clip that are going into that hole. As you can see from the pics, the grommet is a tad too big, but it slots in there nicely and doesn't feel like it's going to fall out or fall in by any means. Being it's out of sight, I don't care that it pushes in a little bit - it should do the job of stopping crap from entering my tailgate, and that's all that matters. :)

Attaching pics for anyone interested. I have one of the extra grommets spoken for, but I have two more if anyone wants to try one. Let me know! Here is the URL to the actual grommets I ordered, in case anyone needs the info in the future:

Thanks Rob. That will be great in my storage area too. I wonder if it would work with a trickle charger? I'm going to have to experiment.

I am pretty sure it shuts off when it detects that the battery is charging.

Just a heads up - all the spare grommets I had are spoken for. Sorry about those who I couldn't send one out to! :(
