Hello All,
Potential new Gladiator owner. I've been lurking on these forums the past few weeks, and have been scouring my local dealerships. I've settled on either a fairly basic Mojave or a basic Rubicon. Both are around $48,950 MSRP/Sticker. I'm thinking I can get the most negotiating out of a car on the lot versus ordering. The dealer that has both these cars (Westgate - Raleigh) seem to have around 60-70 Gladiators in their inventory.

I know nothing about all of the % under invoice strategies here, but some of the threads made it simple by letting people know how much they saved as a percentage under the MSRP/Sticker. So my question to all of you who have purchased recently - What should my target OTD price be? If it helps, I'm in NC, and I actually plan on putting around 20k cash down and financing the rest.

Thanks for any help.

You can use the Jeep Gladiator pricing worksheet linked here to calculate the under invoice targets price (before the destination charge) of a given vehicle by inputting all the options.

I just made a new tab for each car and labeled it with the VIN of the vehicle for reference.

That way you can compare and keep track of what's out there.

Create a saved search on CarGurus and Autotrader to keep track of price drops for the trucks you're interested in. You can sort by price, and also days listed. You can generally be more aggressive if you know a vehicle's been sitting for a long time.

Consider getting a Tread Lightly membership if you're willing to wait 30 days to buy. As a member, you can generate two control codes to get FCA affiliate pricing which ensures 1% below invoice off the bat pricing.

Don't mention to the dealer that you want to throw down a big down payment, focus only on the price before getting into the financing.

Some incentives and dealer kickbacks from FCA are contingent on them getting you into financing, so tell them you're not sure yet but open to financing if there are incentives that will save you money or if they can offer you a good rate. You can always pay down more immediately after financing.

I custom ordered my Gladiator (still waiting!) at 7% below invoice out of Idaho which is a common route for some west coast folks. I saw some better deals on some cars on the lot percentage discount off invoice wise, but they were usually too heavily optioned for my taste.

Great information @blackeye!

Being in NC myself, I plan on ordering a 2021 Mojave by month end from Travis Reynolds at Tri-City Jeep out of of Eden ([email protected]). I sent him a preliminary build with help from the link in blackeye’s post above, and the numbers add up as expected. With 7% below invoice, you are about 12.5% under MSRP (see the screen shot snippet from the email he sent me). Can’t get much simpler.

This is the way to go if you're good with waiting. I did the same thing, and am waiting for my Gladiator out of Idaho.

Looks like you got a well equipped truck for that price!

Thank you both for your comments. Just one question... can you expect even 'better' negotiation/% below invoice if you're looking at a car off the lot? That seems to be a great deal for an ordered Gladiator, but I would assume a dealer would be more willing to bend in order to get older 2020 inventory off his inventory sheet.

I think it really depends on the specific dealer pool in your area. You can usually get a pretty good feel after sending out an email to all of them which are willing to deal and to what degree.

I found a couple very well equipped trucks in my immediate area/state with more than 7% below invoice pricing on trucks on the lot, likely those that had been sitting for a long time; but when it came time to negotiating on other trucks they weren't willing to move. They also weren't interested in going below around 3% below invoice on an order. That 3% was without incentives, but then I'm gambling what FCA is offering if anything when I take delivery.

I can't speak for Jeep specifically, but another possible money saver when taking from stock in that in my past experience FCA will allow dealers to sometimes offer a select number of VINs with bonus cash each month. I've heard these called bonus tag vehicles and you see them sometimes as an additional $1,000 incentive in dealer pricing on top of monthly incentives.

You won't get that on a vehicle that you order.

Since you are in NC, you can checkout tri-city but i also think you should give Koons in Virginia a try. Just look at the deals they have on gladiators in the lot. Some are 18%+ off MSRP. They are also a clean dealer from when i was searching in this forum.
