You did make a tragically poor choice for sure.

Jeep should capitalize on this for marketing:

SO GOOD
They're arguing about the damn keys!
Ok...that’s hilarious!

My FOB never leaves my pocket, except to unlock the gas cap. It's the largest FOB I've ever had, but the size is not an issue for me. I have the proximity locks, which I think everyone should want. I also have the App on my phone which lets me lock, unlock, and remote start.
I have the app, too - and even loaded BlueStacks on my laptop so I could run the uconnect phone app on my Windows PC.

The passive entry system we told the dealer we wanted as my wife has that on her GCs - and we really wanted it, asked for it, but it never got checked. And - bad on us, we didn't notice as the way it was worded on the summary it almost looked like we had it listed.
So I find a fellow has successfully ADDED it to Jeeps - Wranger for sure, perhaps JT - and I'd even pay the guy to put together a kit and then I'd take it to a dealer with his info so they could program it in. It CAN be done - most dealers don't know this, however. IT takes a phone call from the dealer to Chrysler or whoever.

As a JLUR owner and sponsor of these forums, I also saw a need of other carry solutions. I offer handcrafted leather JL / JT key FOB holsters in a variety of options; belt clip, flat carabiner clip, clipless both with and without a button window (for those with proximity entry it is not really needed) in a variety of leather and thread colors. I have hundreds of satisfied customers that often receive compliments. They are available on my website www.gibsonleatherworks.com If you have any questions feel free to message me or you can email me at [email protected]

bet you’d never report just how wonderful all that’d be when some part of it fails and you’re goin nowhere, or your wife is going nowhere and guess who’s the hero then?, over some dead battery or failed connection or who knows what, would be fun to trouble shoot when you need to be somewhere, which is almost always the case when you’re trying to get in you’re vehicle to go somewhere, enjoy

that sounds like the worst idea ever for a vehicle entry and ignition system, man would I want a back up, simple rock solid back up

You've never seen a FOB fail? I have...........
ANY technology can fail - ANY, including a fob. Rare, yeah, but it happens.
So you have a backup - like has been mentioned somewhere.

Any ignition system can fail, regardless of the type. A dead battery in the vehicle is a problem, no matter how it is started.

A dead battery in the FOB is just an annoyance. Pop out the key, unlock the door, touch the FOB against the start button, and then press and start. I've had to do that many times with my Nissan. The small FOB has a small battery with a much shorter lifespan than the Jeep FOB.

Ironically, we've had many Grand Cherokees over the years. We had a 2003 and I think one 2 or 3 years before that - at least it makes sense as after I bought the 2004 WJ from my father's estate, and got what was left of the fob he had on him when he was hit (my brother tried to clean it up and get all body fluids out and make it work) - it sort of worked for a while and then failed completely. I know, it's different, all it did was unlock the doors and such. I checked into new ones and yikes.
I was doing some digging in a box of old keys I had and I ran across two Grand Cherokee fobs I had from past Jeeps. Yeah, one actually still had enough battery that after they were programmed to the vehicle, or rather the vehicle was programmed to work with them, it worked fine. I did put fresh batteries in both, but I was amazed.
Funny, the dealer said that it wasn't possible to set the WJ up to use a fob from another WJ - said it couldn't be done, once a fob was in one Jeep it could not be used in another. That's BS - a lock and safe company programmed both to that WJ in about 2 minutes.
Those use ordinary flat batteries like large watch or calculator batteries.

The only thing that bothered me was the key popping out in the pocket. I tried tape and rubber bands but nothing lasts. Finally, using the side of the grinder wheel, I ground off just enough of the button so it has to be pressed below the plastic housing to release the key. I used a small file to remove the burs from grinding. I just use the corner of my finger nail to release the key. Its a good and permanent fix. I have that cool door lock feature with the little button on the handle so its easy to lock and unlock the doors. Its 114 here in AZ so I can even leave the engine running and lock the doors for a quick run in and out situation. I leave the house keys in the jeep or the garage so I don't have anything hanging from the FOB. I naturally have a hidden house key outside for emergencies. Now that the key isn't popping out in my pocket any more, I love this whole setup. Don't have to take it apart to do this either.

I took the spring out if the fob to keep the key from popping out, and recently I took the truck in for work and they wanted to order new a new fob because the spring was missing to pop the key out.
How could a smaller fob be made with the electronics and size of battery inside the current fob?

I do wonder - why not just set up my cell phone to take the place of the FOB..........
BMW just started shipping cars with that feature. I have not heard of a retrofit coming, but would be surprised if it didn't show up at some time.

How could a smaller fob be made with the electronics and size of battery inside the current fob?
