I'm looking to go a bit larger on my Sport S for tires. Pretty much down to the Falken Wildpeak A/T or the Nitto Ridge Grappler.
Looking at 2 sizes @Discount Tire (I have aftermarket wheels with 4.75 backspace so the stock tires stick out a bit already). Mostly onroad use (like 99% 0f us
). Tennessee doesn't get much snow, so mostly rain for treacherous weather and occassional offroad (fireroads, fields, mud, etc... NO rockcrawling!).
Size 1: 255/80-17-This is a bit over 33" but trying to keep the width down due to the already purchased rims. Both the Nitto and Falken seem to only come in Load range E with this size. E's were a bit stiff on my last JKU to the point I sold them and got a C rated tire. I know the Gladiator is heavier, but still a bit concerned over a harsh ride with the Load E tire.
Size 2-285/70-17-These lose about 1/2" from the first size in height, but much more popular and available in several load Ranges. Downside is they're over 1 1/2" wider so more outside the fenders than I want.
So, any opinions on ride comfort, drivability, etc on the load E tires vs the SL or C rated would be appreciated. As well as opinions on difference between the Ridge Grapplers and the Falkens.
IF I can get my last experience out of my head (those were Mickey Thompson ATZ's 285/70-17), I'd prefer to stick with this size. I know the Falken 285/70-17 are stock size on some trim levels so any impressions of those are much appreciated!!
