I don’t blame the company for their response at all. Tires of the idea that they have to kiss our butts all the time for good customer service.
On a side note...when I initially ordered mine through realtrucks.com, UPS did a number on it, both main bars were damaged, etc..and everything in the box had broken loose from the styrofoam. Looks good on your truck though, I like your decision to minus out the back plate and plexi...

That’s a packing issue then. I have seen it with plenty of auto parts. Some companies pack stuff with a wing and prayer. While other pack it to make it to its destination good as new.

I can’t tell the difference on the roll bar. Looks the same as it does in the photos. It looks good.

Interesting response. I don't think most people want anyone to have their butts kissed (yes, those folks do exist...just ignore them). I truly believe majority of people are good and just want to be treated fairly. Especially when they shell out hard earned money. Successful businesses know this.

As far as packaging, It doesn’t take much for a company to keep buyers for life. Take Apple for example. They spend tons of cash of making sure their packaging is spot on. First impression kind of thing and firsts are everything. The packing job above should be unacceptable to everyone.

Unfortunately we have become a society that easily accepts mediocrity. The seller in this case most likely doesn’t have any ill will...they just need to refine their business model approach A bit. That’s why feedback is priceless whether it is good or bad. Embrace all of it.

Even though we may think it, not everyone of us thinks alike. What may be good for one may not be good for the other. Businesses have to find that sweet spot if they expect to stay in business or be successful.

Failure is part of life. That is why we see majority of new businesses fail. Those that get it ....thrive. Most buyers, I’m willing to bet, will all pay a bit more to get quality.

Absolutlety..this had nothing to do with Black Horse..Looked like UPS had done the damage with fork lift or something. Pierced the box in 2 locations, bent the bars and spilled the installation contents box. They made it right and replaced the damaged parts.

Yeah, I agree, the packaging was crap. I don’t know if I expressed that properly in my post. I always get a sense of quality on an item by how it’s packaged. My impression of the roll bar, by how it’s packaged is it’s cheap Chinese stuff. It may not be, but it’s how it looks in the box.

personally I wouldn’t post about a product, until the situation is resolved. It’s like the packaging, a first impression. Not a lot of people are going to read the end of this thread to see the possible great customer service. They are just going to see your defective product. Which for all we know, is a rare thing. It’s like a newspaper headline. It’s what everyone reads. They don’t read the follow up on page ten, two weeks later.

If you put yourself in the manufacturer shoes, you would be frustrated if someone complained to everyone about a defect product, before you had the chance to make it right. This happens all the time, people going straight to the internet.

Get the situation taken care of first, then post an opinion. That is just my opinion.

It is actually a fine balancing act for manufacturers in this case. Take many of the threads right here on the forum; everyone wants "Made in the USA", great packaging, free shipping with same or next day availability...but then say "nice product, but too expensive" or "I wouldn't pay more than $XXX for that". I agree that companies shouldn't price gouge if they want to succeed, but some people are out of touch with pricing necessary to keep a company alive.

Sandblast it and give it a good coat of duplicolor or rust oleum truck bed liner , lasts longer than some of the cheap powder coating I’ve seen

That packing is pretty bad. Not even double walled box, tubes directly against the cardboard without any more protection than that thin foam sheeting.

They should step up their packing game.

Received my RB09BK Black Horse Roll Bar today, Ill throw my hat into the ring.

Amazon has it listed at $594.69. I got mine on ebay for $535.50. The product has the same part number on Amazon and Ebay, but the one I received is different from what was listed.

You can see its an entirely different bracket, even though both ads had the same part number.

Now that thats out of the way - The packing was an absolute joke. The parts were haphazardly tossed into a box.

Right out the box, Ive got dents and scratches on multiple parts, and one of the tubes has a large dent (The passenger side rear corner, but its covered by the plastic base, so I let it slide). Didnt come with enough foam tape to properly seal the tonneau. All things considered: I did eventually get the darn thing installed, and I am genuinely surprised at how stable it is.

That said, I would not recommend it for this price. If I paid $300 for this thing, Id be giving it 3 out of 5 stars. At $600 after tax, this quality is unacceptable.

My Tyger Fury front bumper was $280 and better quality than this roll bar.

Edit: Added a screenshot of the ebay ad for apples to apples comparison, and adjusted my wording to be less aggressive. Tired and grumpy, long day.
This is not happy here at all... please email me directly. I'm interested in learning who the seller was on this one and seeing how I can get involved in fixing this for you. Would also like to know if you've reached out to them and if they were willing to help you out(as they should). Normally, they would file a claim with the shipping carrier and immediately ship a new one - regardless of the claim outcome.

to answer your first question, the brackets you received makes the bar compatible with a tonneau cover. the brackets in the picture are for vehicles without a tonneau cover.

Regarding the packaging, admittedly, we can do better, and we are working on it. the challenge in this case is that if we are to make it any larger, it would be too large for UPS or FedEx to handle. with this said, the way you received your product IS NOT how it's normally packaged. I suspect you might have ended up with an open box that someone sold out of their garage.

I look forward to your email... and really, please email me. customer service, as many here have pointed out, is not really what I personally do here at Black Horse. Quality issues is one of my many responsibilities.

Hey Rob, appreciate the response. That said, the more I think about it, the more I feel like a jerk for talking about your product the way I did. The ebay seller was AutomotivePartsUSA. Now, Let me try this again:

I do think the price is a little steep, and it would probably be good to get some better packaging going on. That said, I shouldnt be throwing a temper tantrum that its got some dings and dents. I mean, thats what I bought this jeep for in the first place - to throw it around and have fun, its gonna get dinged up in the process. If i wanted shiny and pretty, Id buy a lambo.

At the end of the day, the roll bar looks great on my jeep, It works with my tonneau, it does everything I wanted. The imperfections were cosmetic, I was able to install without issue. Why am I complaining so much?

I see nothing wrong with your complaint. Sure, it'll get scratched and dinged up while playing in the mud... but when you picked up the vehicle from the dealership and found all sorts of dents and bruises, you wouldn't accept that! When I purchase something new, I expect it to be new... and be able to have a story behind every scratch I PUT on a product.

There's more information i'd like to gather from you that shouldn't be put out in public. If you could email me the invoice from AutomotivePartsUSA, I can look in to this for you.

So, little update here, been talking to Rob from Black Horse over email. He was VERY cool, and very helpful. None of this "Reading from a script" nonsense, he was real with me and I greatly appreciated it.

There was some confusion about the mounts - I posted earlier that I saw one type of mounting bracket on Amazon, but received a different type with my roll bar. This was NOT the fault of Black Horse. This was due to a 3rd party seller listing the product on Amazon and using a photo of the Ram 1500 model roll bar on the ad for the Jeep roll bar. Rob was helpful in explaining and sorting that out.

I think I did have some valid complaints, but my initial response was pretty grumpy. At the end of the day, I am really happy with the roll bar and this positive experience with Rob has made a big impression on me. I will look to Black Horse in the future when considering upgrades / new parts.
