I currently have a Sport S. (Not max tow.)

Someone local is selling just the shocks for a pretty good price. Would it be ok and/or worth just putting the fox shocks on? Would it improve ride quality at all?

It is supposed to ride better with the Rubicon Fox Shocks. I bought a set for my Overland at a decent price. I have not put them on, yet, so I can't say for sure that it actually is better.

Yes. Are you getting the springs too? I have them on mine. I paid $200 for shocks and springs.
3/4in to 1 in lift with springs. ish. Lots of threads on here. If you search you will find them.

No the person is only selling the shocks. I did find a ton of info and the whole assembly but was coming up dry on just installing the shocks.

They are definitely better shocks that stock sport shocks. Won’t likely make a massive difference but you should feel it on bumps. Install is super easy. A bolt at the top and bottom of each just swap the shock. If you need instructions just read any lift instruction sheet and see the shock section. But really is that simple. Jack up one tire at a time, pull the tire, remove the old shock, put on the new shock, put tire back on, lower Jack.

I have them on my sport s max tow and can say they make for an easier, smoother, ride overall. Im very happy with the swap. So much so im hunting for a decent priced set just to have in reserve for when these are worn down.

Plus they look nice when you stop and stare at your jt (like we all do)

I did not even jack mine up. I just crawled under and installed them.

I am sure thats possible too. Very easy install. I find it easier to work in the wheel area by removing a tire but I am sure it could be done just going underneath.

Thanks everyone! Wasn’t sure if I could install them without also changing the springs. Thanks for the help/input.

After years of working on lowered cars....this thing is a dream to fit under. :)

I just installed rubicon shocks on my max tow along with a teraflex leveling kit and left the springs alone. It definitely takes bumps better and doesn’t hop like it did before. I’m pretty impressed…and the leveling kit makes it look better and show off the fox shocks too! I think the rubicon front springs are a stiffer ride from what I read so I decided against them.

An excellent upgrade over the stock shocks for sure! After putting Rubicon wheels with factory 285/70R17 tires, could tell the ride was a little, "stiff" compared to the stock Sport 245/75R17. My wife made a comment about the Gladiator leaning in turns too, even compared to her JK Wrangler. During a conversation with a friend, he mentioned picking up a set of Fox shocks too since I already started a quasi-Rubicon upgrade/build. Said he did it on his Overland, and it helped the ride and reduced body roll. I've noticed that the Fox definitely soak up bumps with these tires way better, and did reduce leaning in curves quite a bit.

Installation wasn't terrible. Took me about 20 minutes to figure out the first shock (driver's side rear), then the other three shocks took all of five minutes for each. Any other vehicle, could easily compress the shock up into place and slide the bolt through. Not these puppies. Even tried putting a jack under the shock to push it up high enough to swing into the bracket, nope. Figured out though, put the jack under the frame and raise it up (I used the inward edge of the lower control arm brackets, making sure to leave enough room for the control arms to swing down), the axle will then drop enough to swing the shock right into place. Once that happened, like I said. An easy five minutes per.

Did the rears first, then the fronts... and that's when I realized the rear shocks were on upside down  - will flip them around correctly one of these evenings.

You can see where the confusion stepped in right here - matched the Fox with the factory shock, and thought that was correct:

But when I pulled the front shock off, then the lightbulb went off about the rears now being upside down:
