Yes. It assumes you have come up to a stop sign or stop light - until you shift then it starts again.
It doesn't know your intent to park it or back into a parking spot, so it sees you have stopped and figures heck, you are at a stop light. Oops, we're backing up - better start again!

Yeah, it's normal.

Do the automatics not have an override button for the stop/start feature?

Not everyone turns the start/stop off. Personally I don’t get bothered by it at all, and have never intentionally turned it off.

When pressing the brake pedal it has a position that will stop the vehicle and not engage the auto start/stop. It takes some nuance to finding it and you really have to train yourself to remember it. I've never been good at doing it.

I imagine his intent of asking was to point out that one work around is to simply deactivate auto start/stop as you're pulling up to your driveway (or wherever else that you intend to shift from drive to park, etc).

Same here - frankly, in most cases, I control it with my foot and the brake pedal. Don't hold it hard after you've stopped and the engine keeps running. Hold it just enough to keep from rolling. Want it to stop - press harder. I may be wrong, but in the case of our WK2s and the JT, we seem to do just fine by finessing the foot/brake pedal.

Could have been the intent - push garage door opener, push ESS button, pull up, stop, put in reverse, back into driveway and garage.

I keep that shit turned off. Came up to a stop sign one day and had forgot to turn the auto start stop off. Here comes an asshole not paying attention behind me. When I looked in the rear view I saw them and realized that they were probably going to hit me. Roadway was clear, so I hit the throttle and the f**king start stop BS lagged on me. I just knew I was f**ked. Luckily the starts aligned and the dipshit behind me finally hit their brakes. I pulled forward and they braked just enough for me and Gladys to make it out unscathed.

ESS can suck a giant one.

Thank you for the info. That makes sense!

When you’re pulling up to stop & get out, if you’re quick on the shifter, you can get into Park before it shuts off.
You can also just slip the shifter into manual as you’re pulling up, and the ESS won’t activate, either.
