Because it's for the trip - not for engine hours like the hour meters on tractors.
Unless you are home when the ESS shuts down and then pop back into the truck when the light turns green and you let up on the brake.
Trip to me means the time I start and leave home to the time I get to the destination and shut it off. Time on the road - includes stop lights and signs.
Anyway, that's my take. It's not an engine hour meter, it's timing the total time start to finish, moving or not.
