Reminds me, I used to have a car with an Android-powered head unit, and I had both Androids and iPhones because I was supporting both, and I like to not be tied to a platform or thing. The Android radio worked better with the iPhone. WTF!! Google is an important part of my business, but also, they always have to do 5% totally screwed up.

I use mine on every single drive, what's the problem? Work perfectly, I use Carplay and a dash dock, phone charges fine, and is 100% reliable.

Now, don't get me started on how ridiculously bad the Tesla's integration with phones is. If you asked me to design it to be unusable and piss off users, I'd have to say, nah, give the award to Tesla, they got that.
Its the lack of power. typically that port is put on something to gain the pd spec and 18w of charging over the lower limit of a type a port, instead it puts out the same. When streaming music, plus GPS my S20 Ultra really doesn't go up in battery life very quickly.

Is the design bad because they are forcing you to use their "native" apps?

More Android problems. One of the reasons I gave up on the platform completely. iPhones charge pretty quickly even while being heavily used. 100% of my media is from my phone, 100% of nav, plus I do use it while driving when it's safe. The screen is on 100% of the time. Wife has a Max with the stupid clown-huge screen and it still charges.

Then maybe you can fix mine so it doesn't keep trying to download contacts each time I plug the thing in either to charge or to use AA. It already HAS my contacts, it has since day one as I paired it with BT right away. It knows my phone, contacts are in there.
But each time I even plug the thing in, AA launches and if I don't want to use it, I exit it on the radio and then it takes me to "download your contacts" pages and I have to hit Xs and arrows at least 2 or 3 times to get back to the main screen.
I also can't get it to stop insisting on loading google maps right away. I connect it and it launches right into maps. If I try to use my Amazon music to play music from the Amazon cloud, it loads google maps over it. I don't want google maps loaded every time I plug in but it insists.
So - it's far from perfect, it gives you few choices and of course, being Google, insists that Google stuff has priority and loads maps no matter what. (I'd use Waze first, google isn't exactly accurate as we've found out over the years but both are cheaper than paying for uconnect map updates. I have LIFETIME maps for my Garmin for only 50 bucks and uconnect wants my arm, leg and first born)
The Uconnect map update is on sale through today for $99. You should have received an email about it.

I use a Samsung phone and Android Auto all the time. If you don't want to use it, leave it running in the background, just press the other buttons and bring up what you want on the head unit display. If you don't want it to load, turn off the Screen Mirroring option in the head unit.

I didn't. Also the built-in nav is a really bad joke.
It works fairly well, for a factory installed NAV system. I used it a lot when I first got the truck. Eventually, I switched to Google Maps and Android Auto. The routing is better and incorporates the real time traffic updates.

I had my phone plugged in on the trip back from CO to use Waze.
Funny thing - I started at about 90% charge and by the time we got home it was down to about 60%.
My wife had hers plugged in thinking it would charge while she streamed music - it never went up, it did go down a tad over time.
These ports are worthless as charging ports. There must be only a fraction of what modern phones need. Even those fancy outlets you plug in with 6 110v ports and 3 USB ports can charge at over 3 amps. My wife can wirelessly charge her LG phone in 1/4 the time the truck will do it
I suspect the JT is using standard USB 1 or 2 specs for output not realizing that today's phones can and will handle a lot more.

You don't have a modern phone, you have an Android.

I'm going to go take my USB power meter out to the truck in a while and test it.

First thing to try is a new USB cable. I got about a year out of the last one. Over the last few weeks, I noticed that the phone wasn't always charging like it should. Disconnecting and plugging it back in again would fix it for a while. Then I started getting the Device not Supported message. New cable fixed both problems.

I used the Ampre app on my phone and was shocked at how bad the number were. something around 1200 was the usb ports max, but the adapter I plugged into the 12volt got me 2700, cant remember the units it gave this was a while ago. It was an S10.

Ports will charge my phone eventually, but are pretty damn slow. I have an S20 ultra which can take some of the fastest charging around. 45w with the right charger.

How full was the battery at the time? It will charge slower above about 80%, so it would draw less power. I can't do a good test today as my phone is still at 95%.

I was down below 50% this was a year and a half ago will need to find the photos i took for exact numbers.

Thing is I switched over to the port in the 12volt outlet during the same testing and got the way higher numbers. Switched back to the built in and got the low numbers again.

More than enough to charge any modern phone, unless the phone is crap I suppose.

Oddly, my Tesla will hold the voltage higher, until it just totally turns off completely at 2.55a. Still, again, charges the phone even while being used heaving. Including gaming (passenger, not driver...well mostly).

It's a generic USB tester, commonly available on eBay, Amazon, Ali, etc. On the right, plugged into that, is a load simulator. So you can measure both actual device load and also simulate a max load.

UM-25C is a common term for these testers.
