At the risk of sounding like a complainer I wonder what folks think of this mess the dealer made.

Had my oil changed this Wednesday.
Parked in my garage until today. Noticed about an ounce of oil on my floor in several small puddles.
My 2nd oil change at ~6500 miles and the drivers side of the engine is such a mess it splattered on electrical components and the shock. The tech spun the filter off and let it go everywhere. And then didn't care enough to wipe anything off.
Photos were taken after it dripped for 2 days!
Send photos to the dealer and said once I clean it - if its actually leaking I will contact them.
Not worth the 1.5hr round trip.

Funny enough I just changed the oil/filter in my wife's Mini Cooper - about the same oil filter placement.
Simply putting a rag next to it kept the oil from splattering.
Cant wait to do my own oil changes!

I am really annoyed as I keep my jeep very clean and garaged.
Is there such thing as dealer pride anymore?

Strange. I've done multiple oil changes on my Gladiator. The oil filter is a paper cartridge up at the top center of the engine. You can un-screw the housing and yank it right out with very little oil dripping. Wondering if the technician actually started the engine with the oil filter and housing removed. That would certainly make a mess.

You can do your changes now. No effect on warranty just save receipts and keep a log.

Its not really dealer pride. Its the tech taking pride in their work.

And unfortunately the flat rate system incents them to take these kinds of shortcuts.

Flat rate means that the manufacturer sets a flat rate time for a service or repair. usually expressed in tenths of an hour.

So a tech might get "four tenths" to do an oil change. If he "beats book" which means he did it faster than book time, he can make more money. So he's incented to work fast.

But if he screws up and it comes back with a problem because he was in a rush, its called a "come back" and he doesn't get paid to fix his work.

So he takes shortcuts where it won't bite him. Wiping down the underside of the truck or being careful not to spill oil are perfect places to take a short cut.

I once knew a Saab Master Technician who could make 80 hours of pay in one week by doing most repairs in about half of book time. The amazing thing was he was meticulous and never had any come backs.

Assume yours is a diesel? Agree dealers have no pride in their work, this is the type of stuff that prevented me from even considering using the free oil changes that came with the JT.

Take the dealer's emblem off of your tailgate (hair dryer)and mail it to the GM with a letter explaining yourself.

Edited for improved response.

Time is money and the kid doing the oil change doesn’t care that’s why they put in 6 quarts versus 5

So when did dealers ever have pride?
I had a bad ass dealership back in 2005 or so. They let me use their shop lift to install a budget boost (remember those lol) on my TJ Rubicon (inca gold!). We used to go on all sorts of offroad trips. It was awesome. They just closed up shop one day and I never really talked to any of them ever again. :<

Well at my wife’s dealership, the lube guy is hourly not flat rate.
To the OP you said you contacted the dealership, who?
Did you send the pics?
Service writers are busy people, service managers might help, now the GM may be the guy to contact and with the pics, you may get something in return. Engine shampoo, courtesy oil changes (not that you want any after this mess).
Don’t take it, speak up, show your disgust, damn this isn’t some $5000
beater, right?

Thanks everyone for the support.
It is definitely NOT a beater.
Its the first new vehicle I have owned and I ordered it just the way I wanted it - fully loaded with the diesel.
Im used to taking care of my stuff. My "beater" truck is a 2000 GMC with almost 180k. I would drive it to California in a heartbeat.

Got no response to my email to the service dept.
If I don't hear from them in a couple days the GM is going to hear about it.

I would reach out to the service manager and CC the service writer you are dealing with as well as the general manager of the dealership and your salesman.

That' is excellent. But its not the norm.
