I have a 37" tire and 3.5" lift and have nowhere to put my spare that I like. I haven't seen a tire carrier that folds down, only ones that swing out, but that prevents you from driving around with your tailgate down for items too long for the bed. So my question is, is there a tire carrier out there that allows me to drive around with the tailgate down that doesn't go into the hitch receiver?

Have you tried deflating your spare and putting it in the stock storage location? There is a list somewhere, but quite a few of the 37" tires appear to fit when deflated.

Clayton also has a rear track bar with a bend in it. Seems to allow 37s to fit in the stock cavity.

Either you make your own tire carrier or you learn to live with compromises. The latter is what I did!

DV8 offers a bed mounted tire carrier that can be lifted which may be useful for driving around with long items in the bed.

I lost bed space but try getting that tire out from underneath along 80/94 with four lanes of traffic going 80 mph.I went with safety first.

I was looking at a few but I ordered a Warrior 839 for my RSI Platform roof rack that sits on the Smart Cap EVO A. It's designed to fit Safari roof racks but they have the same 8" on center so I hope it works. I'm not sure if this would be an option for a serious rock crawler since it will change the center of gravity and make it more top heavy. This is my daily driver so I'm more on road and local travel, maybe some mountain driving but no serious trails or rocks. I'm probably going to remove the 33" spare that's still underneath. I have 37x20's I'm not sure I can lift it up there but I will give it a heave ho and try.

My second choice and probably a better one was the AEV Vertical tire rack where the tire sits upright at the back of the bed so it doesn't take up a whole lot of room. I didn't go this route since I want to purchase a decked drawer system and I want to keep the top of it clear to haul things. This does look like an awesome solution. It would be easier to mount it and roll out if you ever need it.
