Mine has starting making this noise as well. 3,000 miles and the noise is quite annoying.

I don't think it has anything to do with the auto because my 6spd has been doing this for over a year. I regeared to 5.13 and it still happens like 1 out of every 15 1st-3rd gear transitions.

When I had 3.73 gears

No one said it was linked to the automatic. Both transmission type owners have been reporting such sounds.
You skip 2nd gear?

Try winding it up more and hitting every gear. It's generally a "lugging" situation where the RPM is too low, the load and cylinder pressures high, etc.
Automatics tend to shift a bit early and keep the RPM too low on some hills, IMO. People with manual transmission have full control over they.

I suggest some with manuals wind things up higher, shift later, to see if it matters.

I dont know about others, but that’s a completely different sound than what I have.

I think some of them are not engine ping................ how many I have no clue but engine ping almost always had the same sort of sound to it because it's the same engine and the cause is the sonic boom of detonation hitting the cylinder walls and resonating.

But IMO, rattles and that sort of thing are too often being caused by the engine being lugged or shifted too soon. So ping or rattle, I think SOME may be solved by winding the engine up and that way when it hits the next higher gear it's not slow darned slow RPM-wise.
Jeep seems to think these should be able to climb a 4% grade at 1200-1400 rpm and that's just wrong, again, IMO.
Keep the RPMs up.

This is exactly the noise mine is making too. Since about 3,000 miles The dealership can't replicate it.

I've learned to live with it for now. I'm not sure what else I can do. I still feel like it's a vibration caused by something but I could be wrong.

This sounds like something in the engine compartment or undercarriage vibrating to me. Not detonation or pre-ignition.

- especially at that RPM and road speed. Detonation should be lower RPM under load more like the first second of the video, not later when wound up more.
Doesn't sound like "engine ping" to me. Wrong pitch.

Same, unfortunately. I can't figure it out. I feel like if it's knock, the engine would have grenaded by now.

I guess I should try to record it one day. I need the Tappet Brothers and their unparalleled ability to decipher engine sounds reproduced by mouth.

It sounds like you're rolling your R's briefly.

Most of these are saying the engine is making noise when hot. Has anyone noticed a diesel like rattle when its freezing cold and the engine is accelerating at low RPM? Sounds like the engine is lugging. Goes away when engine warms up.
