Hi,
Never owned a Jeep before but I have decided to get a Gladiator. As much as I want a Rubicon because of the look, I am thinking maybe it does not make sense given my uses. I mainly drive city, some snowy winters, camp in provincial parks 4 or 5 times a year, visit Home Depot quite often and carry lumber, and at times may tow a small 5x9 enclosed trailer with lumber or other stuff inside. As much as I would love to try off roading, closest place I think is an hour away so while I may try it, will not become a weekly event.
I was thinking maybe a sport/willy's/overland makes the most sense then add options like the gear ratio for larger tires, max tow or other towing packages. Tow packages were a bit confusing, some of the models had max tow, others just tow. Some had the gear ratio change option allowing larger tires, others did not.

What makes the most sense cost wise for me?

Appreciate any thoughts.

I'd suggest the sport/sport S or altitude since you want max tow, prolly makes the most since for you from a cost perspective.

Welcome, I live in Waterloo.
I scuba dive with mine...a lot. I camp 5/6 times a year. I weekend warrior it. Mostly typical stuff that any 2wd pickup will get the job done.
That said, I bought a Rubicon. Not because I need the options but just because I liked it so why not? Get one based on what your comfotable spending and don't worry what others think.

I have only use the lockers 3 times in 20 months.
1st time - when it was new to test that eveything (lockers, sway disconnects) worked as designed.
2nd time - wheeling in Northern Ontario with inlaws near Thunder Bay
3rd - this winter I hooked up and towed and transport that was mildly stuck off the shoulder of the road. I could see he was able to go back and forth a few feet so he just need a little help. :)

It's possible the Rubi/Mohave resale values might be a little better down the road, mainly because they are a bit more desirable to many lookers. Lots of variables and not something I typically care about but worth mentioning I suppose.

Cheers.

I am from Toronto as well... now out in Durham. If you NEED max tow, that will limit your options. I went with the Willys and tow with it just fine. As much as I would love a Rubi, I would never really utilize its options enough to justify the cost.

The Sport in stock form is boring looking IMO. The Willys was a nice compromise as I don't plan on upgrades right away.

An Rubicon with automatic has pretty good towing capacity, if that's what you're after. It tows 7000. A max tow tows 7650.

Max tow, Rubicon, and Mojave are the only ways to get the 4.11 gearing you seek.

Wrong. 7000 on Rubicon Automatic. Maybe they need to update the manual. It's been 7k at least since the 2021s @Elff build sheet shows even more, but I don't know what his configuration is exactly. I know it's an auto Rubi.

Turn the page! It says 7k at the top of the next page, at least in my manual. 6k is for Mojave automatic. My phone is glitching, so it won't let me post it. 6000 is Mojave automatic. 7000 is Rubicon Automatic.

Awesome! That pic I posted was circulating here for a while. I missed that it didn't state the Rubi auto.

That’s right, 650lbs more isn’t that significant in comparison to the others, (Sport, Sport S, Altitude) with the Max Tow.

Thanks everyone, so many decisions lol.

Strange how they package the models, cheapest path is sport, gets the 4:1 ratio but no leather, Willy's is the same thing. If you want leather you have to move to Overland but then no 4:1 ratio. If you want both you really have no choice but Rubicon. Am I missing something,

thanks

You can get leather on a Sport or Sport S. It's a $1750 upgrade. Also, I hope you're seeing not all sports are 4.1. Only max tows are. The rest are 3.73.
4.1s are only on Max Tow (available, but not standard on altitude/sport/sport s), Rubicon, Mojave. Leather can be on any model.

Do you want the 8.4 screen with premium audio package? If so just pick between Rubicon and Mojave. The prices for a loaded up Rub or Moj are not that much higher than a loaded up willys or even a loaded Maxtow S.

If you care less about interior goodies stick with S/Willys
