60th Easter Jeep Safari (Final) Day 5 - Moab Trifecta: Poison Spider Mesa, Golden Spike, Gold Bar Rim

This was our last day so we decided to head out early and run the Trifecta. I am so glad we did. We had done Poison Spider last year so knew what to expect for the first part of the trail.

The new part for us was taking Golden Spike to Gold Bar Rim and out via Gemini Bridges. The trail took about 9 hrs to complete. As always the photos do the talking.

P.S. There is one photo from Golden Spike that shows me getting a bit tippy. Felt like the Jeep was floating and started to tip to the passenger side so I tuned into it and made it out ok.

Thanks for sharing. Trifecta is one of my personal favorites. The wedgy is one of my favorite fun obstacles. I’ve done poison I think 6 times, but that’s nothing compared to others. Such a great trail. No one is going to get damaged, but plenty of fun.

Curious about your build. I also have a Mojave, clayton 2.5" lift on baja boss 37's. Thinking about adding a front locker, but not 100% sure if i need it to do the trifecta. Heading to Moab in September.

I have the @Metalcloak 3.5 game changer with the Rocksport Black shocks, Apex quick disconnects... no front locker but I do have a winch but did not need it on this trail. Let me know if you have more questions.

You can see in my photo the log was moved over to one side so its out of the way. A few days later it was moved again... I have heard some folks say it will be permanently removed. Its not needed anyway.

It's been permanently removed before. It's not like there's a lot of trees out there so a person could find a log like that. There's always some interesting "fixes" and "upgrades" on trails (and bonus bypasses that are 100% not necessary)


Now we just need to figure out how to permanently remove the name "trifecta". (If you drove ALL of the Poison Spider trail and THEN ran Golden Spike, I'll accept the "trifecta". The guy that made it calls it Golden Spike. I'll stick to that and encourage others to do the same)

It's not like you can just drop in and do Golden Spike (unless you air lift in). Golden Spike requires about 40% of the Poison Spider trail to be run and probably more than 90% of the Gold Bar Rim trail. So if someone is doing Golden Spike, it's just known that you're going to run the chunks of Gold Bar Rim and Poison Spider that are required to run Golden Spike.

So saying Golden Spike is significantly more accurate than "trifecta" or "triple threat". Those names have just popped up the past 10ish years or so? To me (not quite a Moab local but sort of), if you say "trifecta" I'm assuming you're running 100% of Poison Spider, Golden Spike and 100% of Gold Bar Rim.

I also think anyone saying 'trifecta' or 'triple threat' are throwing a bit of disrespect to the folks that created the Golden Spike trail. They named it Golden Spike. I will call it Golden Spike in respect to them.








In conversations with Moab locals we often joke about creating a quadfecta, pentafecta or hexafecta by running Eagles Dare, Rusty Nail and the like. It's just as made up as the "trifecta" name
