60th Easter Jeep Safari Day 3: Metal Masher

Well Day 3 started with rain so we figured we would run an easy scenic trail but decided to run Metal Masher and I am glad we did! We had the trail mostly to ourselves and then we had some folks from Jeep Jamboree join us. They were taking I some folks from Jeep China and a couple Chinese influencers on the trail. Good Times!

The best part was that there were only 3 other jeeps on the trail. I think the rain scared folks away.

That’s awesome. I did it on a weekday and it was just as empty. So nice. Got to do one of the obstacles in reverse. Good memories of questionable decisions. I want another shot at this spot on masher.

Oh wow. Did you have a hitch slider? Other then the rear bumper did it damage the tail area?

Hitch skid and bumper were pretty much buried, but they did their jobs. I winched up it. Couldn’t back up without tearing the bumper off. I want another shot at it though. I was 3” in front and 4.5” rear at the time. Now 4.5 and 6.5. Still no guarantees.

I have the Sheridan, so slightly wider, but same here. Lots of “that’s just the skid” talk.

Metal Masher is one of my favorites in Moab. Last did it in my JK on 33s. Avoided the crazy stuff but still had a great time.

When you winch, where did you winch from? Is it possible if no one is there to witch from the terrain in this spot?

I was able to reach a strong juniper WAY in front of me, with a 30’ strap as an extension/tree saver. It was a pretty easy winch. The rear tires were just spinning in dirt before the rock face, and the fronts were too light to pull it up. Once the rears grabbed the rock I drove up it. No one else was there other than my friend as passenger and co driver. Backing off of it would have been way worse than winching. I’ll definitely try it again now that I’m lifted a couple inches higher. Knowing that winching is a good option if it doesn’t work. I found the video my friend took while I winched and uploaded it. It’s easy to see that it was a pretty easy pull.

Nice thanks for the vid and explanation. Put my Truck away for 1 year with no time to add my
suspension to it. I'll check out those vids though!
