Nice build. Im in a similar boat. Our hunting season in FL is long. We can hunt white tail from October to February, and wild hog year round. I'm basically in a DD/Overland hunting rig haha.

Open recall: Y68 - 2020 JL JT 3.6L MISFIRE
PCM software update required per open recall.

To paraphrase the notice "Under certain conditions, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software will not enable misfire detection. If the PCM does not detect engine misfire it will not set a fault code when a misfire is occurring, which may lead to difficulty diagnosing issues with the engine."

I brought the Jeep in for the software update. The process was completed in fairly short order. I had no previous issues with misfire and don't appear to yet.

FCA's notice is available online: https://www.chrysler.com/universal/webselfservice/pdf/Y68.pdf

I've been getting the "Service Axle Locker" message occasionally. In the past week the message pops up every couple of minutes.

Jeep Gladiator EgulAye's mild hunting build (is it an overland build?) 20220329_105244

I brought the Jeep in to the dealership today and they report the following:

Jeep Gladiator EgulAye's mild hunting build (is it an overland build?) 20220329_112809cr

This sounds a lot like the issue referenced by this other thread, one of my codes is the same, the other obviously related:
https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...ssue-repair-kit-fix-released-for-jt-jl.55502/

My dealership didn't tell me which two wiring harnesses they planned to replace, but I was told it would take a week or so for the parts to arrive.

I know they hunt out of Trucks down south, but I thought it wasn't legal to hunt from a vehicle in Maine. What exactly do you hunt from a moving platform?

We don't shoot from the platform, moving or stopped. But on a trip like a moose hunt, where you apply for a permit for years and years before getting one and then get a six day window, you make the most of your scouting time.

The rules have changed somewhat in recent years, you can now shoot from a stopped ATV (engine off). But motor vehicles like a pickup are still prohibited.

Adding this entry well after the fact...

I got a second full spare set up when I first got the truck and now I've finally reached a point where I needed to rotate the two tires onto the truck. The aftermarket TPMS sensors have not been working. I brought the Jeep to the dealership and they were not able to program them. They ended up replacing both sensors and now they work. Every time I rotate two tires back onto the truck all of the TPMS sensors need to be re-programmed. From the dealership the new sensors were about $62 each.

This is annoying, but I do like seeing the live tire pressures.

Update of the "service axle locker system" error message:
I brought the jeep back to the dealership to have the repairs completed. The two codes they recorded were:
  • C1416-13 - Front Differential Control-Circuit Open
  • C144D-15 - Front Differential Position Sensor-Circuit Short to Battery or Open
  • "found needs harness connector and axle connector to repair issue (loose internal connection)."
Today they installed two parts:
  • 68400411AA :ACTUATOR: NONE - 684 - QTY 1
  • 68500924AA :WIRING: 4 WAY - 685 - QTY 1
I also expressed my concern about the transmission shifting issues: high rev's, delayed shifting, not shifting to a higher gear at cruising speed...

There are no trouble codes for this issue, but the service tech advised me that there was an updated flash for the transmission controller. I agreed to have the update flashed to the module (my truck doesn't exhibit the symptom described in the TSB, but having the newest flash seemed like a good first step):

At the start of this month I was approaching 30k miles on the Jeep so I figured it was time to rotate the tires. Oil life was also at the point of needing to be changed. I ended up getting a nail in one of the back tires, probably due to someone hauling a pile of scrap lumber poorly secured to their trailer. When I got the low tire pressure alarm I figured that was a good time to do the tire rotation myself ;)

I got the Jeep off to the dealership today for the oil change, state inspection, fixing the flat, and looking at the spare tire hanger. They also re-learned the TPMS sensors after my tire rotation.

Here's an item I find weird, the shop writeup for the tire repair reads "removed nail from tire and used rope plug in hole. checked for a leak and found none." I thought for sure that the rope style plugs were no longer legal for road use here in Maine. Lo and behold, 119-LD-2438: on Jan 10, 2000 issued a clarification to Sec. 1 29-A MRSA §1756. Inspection standards to clarify:
"8. Inspection standards for tire. A tire that has been repaired with a tire plug only may not fail inspection solely for that reason. When performing an inspection of a tire that has been repaired by use of a tire plug only, unless there is other evidence of an unsafe condition it is not necessary to remove the tire from the rim to perform the inspection.

Sec. 2. Tire repair standards. The Chief of the State Police may not require that a repair of a punctured tire include more than a tire plug or that the repair facility remove the tire from the rim to effect the repair if the tire can be repaired using a tire plug only.

SUMMARY
Current motor vehicle inspection rules as adopted by the Chief of the State Police require the rejection of tire repairs that are made by use of a tire plug only. Tire repairs must be done by removing the punctured tire from the rim, inspecting the tire casing and applying a vulcanizing patch and tire plug. The rules also require inspections to punctured tires to be made by removing the tire from the rim.
This bill prohibits an inspection facility from failing a tire's safety inspection solely on the grounds that the tire was repaired using a tire plug only. This bill also prohibits the facility from removing a plugged tire from a rim for inspection purposes unless there is some other indication of an unsafe condition.
This bill also prohibits the Chief of the State Police from adopting a rule that requires a repair to a punctured tire be made by removing the tire from the rim if it is not necessary to do so in order to repair the tire."

Also, my spare tire hanger failed, at two years old and with only about three operations. That's how many times I've had the spare tire out from under the Jeep. When putting the spare back under the Jeep after rotating the tires it only went up about half way. After that the mechanism slips / jumps a tooth and fails to raise the wheel any higher. Even with no wheel on the hanger it won't go any higher than half way; it just keeps jumping teeth. The dealership confirmed that it needs to be replaced. Sigh

I installed a Tazer JL Mini (by zAutomotive). I ordered mine through Quadratec (https://www.quadratec.com/p/zautomotive/tazer-jl-mini-wrangler-jl-z-tzr-jlm).

I don't have any photos to share but I'm loving the fixes this device offers.

Leaving it plugged in allows the device to restore the Auto Start / Stop last state, the Traction Control last state, turns off rear license plate lights when in reverse, allows factory lockers to engage when in 4H and 2H, rpm ramp up for winch mode, brake lock feature for winching, tire pressure warning limit changes... These are all features I use and enjoy. I'll also be using the Dark Mode feature, though I've only tried it once so far.

Replaced the front shocks with Fox Racing Shox version 2.5 w/ the 0-1,5" lift version. The install was super easy, reusing the mounting hardware from the factory shocks. Top and bottom used an 18mm socket & wrench. The top bolt has a retained nut on the back side, so you don't have to get a wrench back there. The bottom needs a wrench on the back side to hold the nut. I was able to use my small impact driver for most of the work. The remote reservoir was easy to mount.

I'll get the Jeep out in some rough terrain next weekend and we'll see what difference it makes.

The new shocks are much larger than the originals, these are noticeably heftier/beefier.

I also replaced the steel winch rope with a synthetic line. I got a Q-Series Dyneema Line from Quadratec. I don't have any photos of the install but the included hook was the first modification I made, cutting it off.

I also picked up a Warn fairlead and a new Rugged Ridge soft shackle.

The Fox Racing Shox performed amazingly well. For the type of driving and off-roading that I do these performed exactly as I had hoped. No harsh rebounds or suspension bottoming out, comfortable ride at all speeds, and the on-road and highway handling is as good as original.

I'm planning on replacing the rear shocks with a similar upgrade this winter.

The front shocks are Fox part number 883-26-049, which you can find here on RideFox.com (https://www.ridefox.com/product.php...p&model=Gladiator+JT&year=2020&position=Front)
The rear shocks will be Fox part number 883-26-073, which you can find here on RideFox.com

I had a chance to use the new winch line today. There was a dead tree across a trail I like to ride on occasion. The new winch line worked very well and was easier to handle than the old steel line. Moving a rotted tree isn't like pulling a heavy truck out of the muck but the motions are the same.
