A friend of mine had an LT1 conversion done to his JK. When they dropped the frame from the body they found all kinds of corrosion. He decided to replace the Fram.
In the end it cost him an extra 10k, largely because the body was already off and they were already going to replace the engine...
When I was a kid my friends father owned a body shop. They had a "frame puller" that a good body man could use to bring that thing good as new.
Do body shops even have frame pullers anymore??
Done right it will be stronger and more rust resistant than the unrepaired side. But it will impact resale value. A new frame will probably run $15k installed. That's the problem.
A good friend of mine with 37s who does only mild off roading removed his spare. The risk for him is mostly on-road. He says the chance of getting a flat in big gnarly mudders is next to zero. He's probably right. But he removed the spare from his JK. Just seems sketchy to me with the fact...
I've got the 8.4 and there are many cases where having the extra phone display is useful. Navigating while listening to music is one.
Another is when you actually want a useful, highly detailed map.
Bottom line is the display, even in 8.4" guise, isn't anywhere near a 100% replacmeent for...
Full stuff driving in the driveway.
Though I'd probably do this just to see what my new wheels looked like while I figured out what lift to do. As is, it would probably be challenged by a speed bump at the Mall.
If you don't have a problem with waiting, then I'd suggest ordering it. You get exactly the options you want, and none that you don't.
I got mine from Gupton and was very very pleased with the price and the total purchase experience.
But if it's a 6" lift, then the geometry brackets would need to be 6" tall to maintain stock control arm angle. Those brackets don't look 6" tall.
But I guess if they are 3" tall, then they get the angle down to where they'd be with a 3" lift and that's manageable.
To the person above who...
I dont pretend to be a jeep specific suspension expert. But I've raced cars and motorcycles and generally understand how suspensions work.
It would seem to me that with a 6" lift the control arms are angled down at so much of an angle the thing is never going to drive right at higher speeds...
It may not need more air. Grill opening is sized for worst case. In most cases towing high and hot, up hill. If the tow rating is lower than our trucks, it can get by with less opening. Also if you create a well sealed plenum between the openings and the radiator (better considered to be a...
We all live and learn. I now see why your expectation was probably a bit warped.
1) coming out of a Corvette Z06. Very sorted suspension and insane grip with large tires. Certainly benefits from the millions in engineering GM put into chassis development. That will set expectations perhaps a...
Wow. They addressed many of the issues.
Side curtain airbags are a big deal. it brings the model into the mid 2000s as far as that goes. As someone who has been T boned, I can tell you they can make a huge difference.
It's not just the summer blend fuel. It's the fact that it takes less power to push the Jeep through warm air than it does cold air.
I've had a few days where it was 10 deg one day and 2 days later it was 60. I will see my fuel economy go from 14 to 18, on the same tank of gas.
Back when I...
I watched Craigslist, this forum, and jlwrangler forum like a hawk for about 4 months. I eventually found a twill one about 40 miles away for $500. I didn't even try to negotiate.
It's not just the height of the sidewall. It's the height of the sidewall in proportion to the tread width.
With 6.5" of sidewall on a 14.5" wide tires, you are talking about a FORTY FIVE series tire.
Absolutely, definitely a low profile tire. Just look at the photos in the OP.
But let's...
