I'll just add on the "protecting accounts" sub-discussion, as a 20+ year software engineer in the fintech and healthcare space, use a password manager (Bitwarden, 1Password, not a Post-It :)) and generate strong, unique passwords (passphrases ftw) for every account. Most security exploits have...
I've had a good experience with the Smittybilt SRC Gen 2, 5 years on a Taco then I bought a 2nd when I got my JT. I wouldn't say I've put them through the ringer (1-2 times/month), but I've used both on some hard pulls in winter and in the mud, mostly on heavy rigs stuck to their fenders in mud...
That's a good read, thanks for posting. I knew there were more reasons to dislike the PT Cruiser :) Joking aside, I wondered why the small truck took so long to come back. I like my mid-size for my usage, but everyone of my family that lives in the 'burbs or on mini-ranches covet the little...
Foresty Forest, a YT'er in a mini-van and then a Quiggly full-time in Canada does some great recipes with his Ninja, and a crockpot before that. Sometimes puts my cooking to shame and he's doing it after 15 hour days in the mountains.
Yeah, I think the kit's a bit spendy even for the convenience factor and is missing much of what I've actually used. Prebuilt kits lack what you need for all the after market bits you've added to the Jeep too. I like to include a decent electrical kit (fuses, multimeter, electrical tape), JB...
There's a house up the road that has a classic Gladiator and 2 Jeep Forward Controls in their field that brings out the ? and thoughts of the next project.
Hindsight I wouldn't change anything yet on the JTR, but have only had it 10K. If Gator came back, that would be awesome, but I do love...
Well, regardless of the mess the Jeep Marketing department has made of labels (naming things is hard), I'm loving my 4-auto on the JTR while still having the 4:1. It's a big reason I ditched my Taco.
Similar to others here have mentioned my area will get months of dry pavement+snow/ice on the...
I have the gas JTR with steel bumpers and a winch, about 50lbs of typical recovery gear/tools. with my camper build with all the windows it was about 325lbs. I think all told I had about 1" of sag up front and 1.5" in the back with everything. The camper put the sag in the back lower than the...
Probably? Have you seen the FWC prices yet? $1150 for their mattresses.
I already had 2 Thermarest 3" foam/inflatable pads and just use those, super warm and save on space when dropping the top down. If I had to get a mattress I would do that again or get an Exped Megamat. There's also places...
I'll add, I would bet the Project M from FWC also uses a pretty heavy duty material for their pop-up as well. Project M uses the same mechanisms as their slide ins, and at least on the older ones I've seen the material is kind of a rubberized canvas. Their window options and the cost of mods...
I've only had my JTR 8 months, but whenever I notice another nice little attention to detail I love it all the more. This time it's the little slots under the center console lid so you can run a cord from the USB socket in the storage compartment through the lid cleanly.
In my '17 Taco the...
Bi-polar and a little psychotic, you never knew if it would leave you in oncoming traffic when turning. I think creeping up on turns would keep the tranny in 3rd+, then you step on it and have nothing, then it dumps to 1st and screams the last 10'. Too bad the manual had more recalls and...
We're enjoying our OVRLND, ours was about 325lbs with our customizations (Tern windows in our side hatches, windows front and rear, fan, half barn doors. The owners (Jay & Maggie) were great to work with and the build quality has been great. For me I didn't want a wedge, even with the short JT...
I was impressed by the Falken AT3s on my JTR at the end of last winter, but didn't put them through the ringer yet in Montana. Just 3-4" of snow on top of ice a few times playing and they did great. However, I definitely put some General Grabber ATXs through a few years of ice-packed hell and...
Personally I wouldn't go over 2" on a budget lift since the ride will suffer, especially for a 99% on-highway rig. I assume the RC kit doesn't have adjustable anything (trackbars, control arms etc). An AEV spacer/bracket kit would get you 2", keep the factory ride, and probably save a little $.
F* it, I actually like the look of the Recon, especially with all the panels off. I'm also in love with the idea of replacing my Subaru grocery getter with an EV that can handle some rougher stuff. Kind of meh on the Wagoneer S look, but I never was interested in sporty 4x4s, the blunter the...
I think this is a much more real threat to InReach/Spot than the iPhone. From what I read it'll be for general communication, not just emergency. The iPhone feature is great for people who don't realize they left the frontcountry and get into an emergency situation, but not for offgrid...
