So agree with you on this.
For me, its important that the forum members here remember, if someone asked me
"would you buy another Wrangler/Gladiator?"
My answer would be...
"Id buy one in a heartbeat"
I love this car because offroad, it truly is a hell of a 4wd and i absolutely love the...
So that means i only need ro replace the FAD housing outer axle seal...which is the stupidly expensive one🙄
I am trying to find a "blind bearing puller" large enough to remove the failed bearing outer ring...unfortunately, the standard spare parts stores around here dont have kits thst go above...
Im hearing you shadow papa...my concern is that it was clearly diff oil leaking out through the outer axle tube...if only 1 outer intermediate shaft bearing failed, why was the inner seal leaking diff oil? Perhaps the wobble in the shaft...however ive been complaining to jeep service about diff...
I got the quote from two Jeep dealerships here in Australia...(im rounding the figures a wee bit)
Outer seal $600
Inner seal $300
I know i can imoort then from MOPAR to Austraoia for about half that price
($270 AUD outer seal...inner one i would just get here)
What do you guys reckon tue chances are that once the collapsed bearing is replaced, the existing seals wont leak anymore?
I know its a long shot but at $900 for the 2 seals???).
Yeah that second image has gone pearshaped...
I think i have to slide the ring to the left on the shaft...its tight though so somehow I have to hold the ring whilst tapping the intermediate shaft. This is going to be fun...i think I'll have to tap it with a long bar through rhs wheel hub whilst...
OK, so i have received and opened the repacement intermediate shaft kit.
It's the bearing shadowpapa has described
Note the two images attached.
What I dont know is how I'm.going to get the inner bearing ring off the intermediate shaft whilst its inside the FAD housing? (Because i can't pull...
I note in the exploded diagrams, there is no second bearing on the intermediate shaft. I don't see any bearing actually...it appears that the sliding disconnect collar is it???
If thats the case, where did all the bearing balls come from that i found sitting in the bottom of the FAD when I took...
Yep the axle seal is on the "US" RHS/passenger side of the FAD housing. However, there is no bearing on the outer shaft.
On mine it appears the bearing is on the intermediate shaft...i cant see it, but I'm assuming it's just to the left of the FAD housing.
I know there is a bearing inside the...
Anyone got images or video of how they remove the intermediate shaft outer bearing?
Mine has collapsed and is in pieces...all the balls have fallen out (were sitting in the FAD housing) and the inner ring is on the shaft...i have not yet seen the outer bearing ring...it must be still inside...
ah hang on...i didnt realize that these diffs use an electric axle lock on the rhs of the axle tube in place of hub locks
that seal is the one that has failed and the oil inside the case there is full of sludgy crap.
i found small ball bearing balls floating around inside the case...now i see...
I would imagine some do leak when the axle is pulled, however, the giveaway here is the oil in the dirt around the shaft and notice the entire shaft diameter is covered in oil.
Finally, in the earlier images I took of this leak, the axle assembly hadn't yet been pulled...so it shouldn't be...
You would be able to get them for US vehicles. didn't i see a youtube video somewhere where the conversion was already done? Way-a-life or someone like that (i had to insert "-" because the moderators here seem to like banning good resources from these forums!)
attached is a copy of the Jeep Dealership Service report from this morning as well as a close up image of the leak.
I have to question if the mechanics really looked at this carefully because the fluid in the image below doesnt look like CV shaft grease leaking to me, it looks like oil.
I found the Mopar parts...no where near the price I was quoted. It was roughly about $150 USD for rhs... a lot less than $500 Australian.
I'm doubtful they will do this under warranty and to be honest, one can't blame Jeep for this. I'd suggest mine has failed because the thing has been in mud...
