Love it! This would have likely worked for us as well, but I'm happy we integrated our own since we used it quite bit on our trip last year. Can only recommend getting one of these heaters. Although it is a bit annoying that the fan runs no matter what when the heater is on, but not currently...
You mean the AluCab profile going left to right on the front (car cabin) side of the camper? I can try, but due to the build it's not easy to get in there. I can definitely measure the height of the 80/20 profile we have going left to right between the AluCab profiles on the sides, basically...
I see. Agreed on the smell outside. On the maintenance side, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but haven't needed any maintenance for my heaters. One of them has been in sporadic use for three years now, one just six months.
What do you mean by efficiency? Just curious.
From our perspective: the Webasto has taken less than 0.3L in overnight "keep resonably warm" situations in Alaska when outside temps dropped to 0 to 5C (32 to 41F). Dealing with diesel hasn't been an issue even though we do use a Rotopax for our...
Mine is more complex than that. If you're interested, there is a full build thread, documenting in fairly fine detail. I do have seating, a higher "kitchen" cabinet with sink, water filter, pump, electrical (for induction cooking), a composting toilet, a 12V oven, Webasto heater. Let me know if...
We have the HD Diesel setup from Terraflex on our truck. It's pretty much level when we don't have the water tank, spare fuel, etc. filled up, and it does have a 3/4" spacer in the rear. We don't have a winch, so no additional weight on the front right now. I'd rather shorten the front springs...
Same here. The Canopy Camper setup is okay in good weather, but very suboptimal in conditions that make you want to spend more time inside. We do have the mosquito tent my wife made, which helps with time spent outside. We have the same problem with the sidewall kit: it's too big and heavy for...
We used standard nuts and bolts for the 80/20 side and M8 bolts in the ACCC slots, connecting them with angle brackets we cut from a 90 degree 2" aluminum angle, 3mm thickness. Then used nylock M8 nuts and fender washers to bolt it down.
The brackets look like this (although with 8mm holes on...
We switched to OEM LED lights and have a set of halogen lights here that we don't need. If you're in the SF Bay Area, you can pick them up for free. Just PM me. I don't want to ship them, since shipping large items has become outrageously expensive.
For what it’s worth, we’ve been “using up” the OEM Falken Wildpeak MT-01 33” C rated on our Gladiator with AluCab, full build-out, water and all our travel stuff. We did about 2500 miles of relatively harsh gravel over the summer. Pressure at 22 front, 28 rear on the Dempster and other gravel...
It's probably what I'd do in Europe. Here in the US, they are stupid expensive. Although, even in Europe I might pick up a diesel Troopy over a Defender.
Yes, I did.
We took off the door, marked extremely carefully the mounting points for RhinoRack loadbars. The mounting bolt goes from the outside through the RhinoRack loadbar, then through the outer skin AND through the extrusion on the inside of the door. We then inserted a t-nut into the...
I'm aware of that. The main downside is similar to the Wrangler with Ursa Minor: the vehicle underneath is small(ish). It's shorter than a Defender 110 inside. And in the US, there is no Diesel available like in the rest of the world.
My take is that I won't be building anything in the US, but...
I just ordered fuel and air filters from Doc’s. I’m sure they are just fine and I really wasn’t willing to pay $300 for the fuel filter replacement … haven’t even checked what they want for air filters, I’ve cleaned mine a few times on the trip and just dropping in a new one is easy enough …
There's the Ursa Minor roof conversion, the main problem there is that the JL is just too small for two people and longer travel with this. Should work great for a single traveler though. Actually, that's what Dan Gregg used around Africa and it's what I'd do if I was traveling alone.
