One of the revisions to the 2020 Jeep Gladiator owner's manual, on page 251 of the online version, is that five API Certified motor oil grades are listed. However, SAE 0W-20 is recommended in the next paragraph on the same page.
I have no further comment beyond what I wrote in the History...
This is from a post I wrote three years after a very good Jeep service advisor resolved death wobble in a single visit. I'm keeping the warnings (such as: read first 3 three posts at the link below) for other readers. The OP has been banned, but the first 3 posts in the thread below helped me...
I have decommissioned this thread because some promos can be fraudulent and the idea of a dedicated promo thread never caught on. This thread is no longer listed in my collection of links in Oils, Fluids & Filters -- Lists & Guides For Jeep Gladiator, and I have removed all links to this thread...
A few hours before I traded in my 2014 4WD Patriot ($18,400 new incl TT&L) in Houston in September 2019, I got an offer from CarMax for exactly $9,000. It had a gash on one of the doors and the front end needed work. In their words, the reason that the offer was so high was "we liked your...
Mentioning the value of construction equipment helps me understand the value that the testing camp, on this forum, provides to the rest of us.
On Gold Rush or Yukon Gold, those guys are miles from anywhere. Let's say that the two most popular mining operations want to sell out at the end of a...
- This is an analysis of motor oil viscosity grades, for the gasoline engine, listed in 1) the online version of the Jeep Gladiator owner's manual (revised), and 2) the "Mobil 1 Engine Oils Product Guide Sheet" (attached)
- This can, of course, be done for any brand of motor oil; I used the...
Standard. I suggest that you buy the pump after you have your hands on the bottles of fluid for the pan drop.
This is for anyone who reads this thread:
Disclaimer: There are at least some who will say "don't try this at home"; however, reviewing the guidance in the original post, above, is a...
I wrote this to explain my rationale to folks who are less familiar with the details of the gasoline engine.
PUG Engine and CAFE Standards
An important factor in any motor oil discussion is that the current version of the 3.6L Pentastar gasoline V6 engine was upgraded (known as the Pentastar...
I agree with Mr._Bill's statement in principle.
Please see my post on ATF Equivalents. It covers ZF docs, the owner's manual, and other key considerations. To start, see doc #s 1 and 2, and 5 thru 7.
Also see the section called Service Interval, under "Key Considerations on ATF for Automatic...
When I bought my JT Sport in 2019, I tried to find one with a manual transmission & hand-crank windows to stay true to the legacy. However, it was still the first model year and a manual transmission was difficult to find.
One of the things that I appreciate most about the Jeep culture is the...
OK, so you were only talking about going from 0W-20 to 5W-20 (slight increase in low temp viscosity, or just the first number). I will add this to my post above.
Update:
See ShadowsPapa's answer below. He was talking about going from 0W-20 to 5W-20 (slight increase in low temp viscosity, or just the first number).
Also: An important factor in any motor oil discussion is that the current version of the 3.6L Pentastar gasoline V6 engine was upgraded...
Lake Speed Jr / the Motor Oil Geek ALMOST says that folks who live in a hot climate should consider using 5W-30, but he doesn't because the evidence that he mentions is a single case. He also spends some time talking about diesel.
After he finishes slamming the fake video, the main theme is...
Update on 2026-06-09:
After careful review of the ZF process document (see first attachment to this post), here are the findings:
An ATF level check, as described in Section 12 of Pan Drop Instructions, is a necessary part of the pan drop process, and is completed after the vehicle has cooled...
Thanks for the advice on watching the video.
Why attempt to marginalize the dude's advice in the video--passed on to us directly from a ZF guy who presented at an industry conference--when it explains why some have noticed the need to do a fluid level check the day after a pan drop? Hint...
Here are a couple of useful posts about coolant. You can't go wrong with MOPAR, but PEAK is also a very good choice.

I hope you don't mind a little help describing the fluid as it sits in the transmission. I'm working with @Maximus Gladius on a written version of the pan drop procedure.
Please see section called "Visualizing ATF in Automation Transmission" in this post, and Pan Drop Instructions.

Switching gears to a some things I'd do early if I had a new Gladiator:
At between 1,000 miles and 5,000 miles (opinions vary, so I'm listing a range):
1. Change motor oil and filter
I know, this guidance is a bit late in your case
For guidance on oil change intervals, also see: Motor Oil &...
