I recently put in a 100ah lithium battery system with a 40 amp dcdc charger. My two main draws are the fridge and Starlink (with occasional use of the ice maker as well). The Starlink uses a lot of ac power. It can be converted to dc power for a significant savings in draw as well as savings...
Installed a Yakima Road Shower to replace my Joolca. The Joolca worked OK but requires a lot of stuff: hoses, pump, propane, etc. The Yakima stores some of my water and is super easy and reliable. Gonna give it a full test in Utah soon.
Found it! I had the diagrams to look for the ground points from the beginning. I was still looking in the wrong place! Gotta use my reading glasses. :CWL:
The ground point that I was looking for is behind the plastic trim by the seatbelt. All good now.
I looked at the diagram of ground points to find a good place for my new lithium battery setup. It shows one about in the middle of the rear passenger side door on the driver's side. What I found is a connector that works a lot like one of the door electrical disconnects that you use when you...
I wish that they were accurate. I just had both of mine replaced under warranty after 18 months. Nowhere near 500 cycles unfortunately. Not sure if that is the norm or an unusual case. Neither was drawn down below 50% on any occasion I believe. At least they were replaced without any problems...
OP should definitely do his own research on lithium vs agm. There are a lot of reasons that the vast majority of overlanders choose lithium for a second battery system.
They are not for use under the hood due to engine heat as most know. They are not tied into the main electrical system either...
If you consider a Bluetti or similar be sure to look into charging rates. They don't tend to charge nearly as quickly as a dcdc charger going to a stand alone battery.
Also look into lithium batteries that can self heat. More $$ but looks like they can solve the cold weather problem in my...
If we didn't go so far away from help I would possibly only put in the lithium house battery. Going remote as we do I would still put in both systems.
Would have to do some more research into other options to get rid of the aux battery before deciding for certain though.
I am putting the...
Like you said, it depends on what your needs are. And your budget.
I put the Genesis in a little over a year and a half ago. I had two reasons to do so.
1. We go very remote by ourselves and try to make the Jeep as reliable as possible. The second battery issues I had seen people having made...
Giving up the rear seating was why I delayed doing this for a few years. We find that it is almost always just my wife and I in our case now. There will be a few times when we would like the seats but we'll figure something out in those cases. Sounds like a 40% is a good solution in your situation.
Thanks for this post! Perfect timing as I am laying out some bottles to cut the foam for my bar going on a Rebel rack! I think I may have gone a bit overboard on the size though.... I was just trying to decide how best to mount it.
