I know, right. Why couldn’t they have just lopped off two cylinders from an inline-six Cummins and ran with that?
But you touch on an interesting point. On a day to day basis, I literally chug around in this thing. Slowly accelerating from stops, cruising at lower speeds, never really going...
Similar to a muscle or sports car owner, you really gotta love a diesel to be willing to overlook all the painful nuances: cost of the engine and transmission, a higher fuel price, the added cost of DEF, more expensive services, additional expensive filters to change, and, of course, lots of...
Oh, crap! I’ve been driving and buying fuel in five of the ten sh$t fuel states. How lovely.
Thanks for the information! Even though it’s going to cost me a couple of Benjamins.
Rusty, do you have the manual handy? If so, can you please list the states that require the 10k interval for the fuel filter?
That would be really helpful in the scheme of this wider conversation about dying, defective injector pumps.
I really need to look at this fuel filter interval because it’s an expensive part of the service.
My selling dealer gives one free oil change and tire rotation, aside from my free Jeep Wave maintenance benefits, which I’m getting this week at around 8k miles before heading out on another road...
Oh, well. Seems you can get your faulty seat belt retractors fixed at the same time:

That’s a funny, but not-so-funny topic, too.
Mine had a build date of 4/22. I matched my window sticker against the options listed on the Jeep website in July when I purchased it, and the price of the options had increased by around $900.
I was damn lucky that the dealership probably didn’t...
Probably what I’ve already speculated before. It’s likely they’ve known about this issue for awhile and were waiting until the problem/failures hit critical mass in large numbers, while also fielding what they had for good parts.
They’re following the VA playbook.
Deny, deny, until you die.
Between accidents and other engine failures, trade-in attrition, and some of us dying by COVID or other natural causes, the number of needed repairs will keep declining, lol.
In order for the recall to have reared its head, I’m inclined to believe the failure rate is higher for us. Could also be a difference between where the pumps are manufactured, the quality of the labor pool.
Like everyone else, I have little control over the quality of my diesel fuel, but like...
You know, I had the exact same thought for the most-likely culprit for the pump manufacturer, but I didn’t want to drop the name without knowing for sure.
If it’s Bosch, they’re sure riding on their old name, but racking up a string of high-profile failures in the last decade.
Don’t snipe and run off!
You’re claiming a lot of moral high ground for a guy with nothing more than a proposed ”surgery” date, lol.
It’s not like you’re actually out of action.
That recall notice is nothing more than a “return to duty without limitations” slip of paper. :CWL:
Surprisingly, mine isn’t actually broke yet. Three hits that left pit marks.
Spouse and I have a new marital agreement. Whoever breaks the windshield next has to confess to the insurance company and the ensuing repairs.
Unlike the Crapstar engine, we’ve already got a 100k power train warranty. The fuel pump should be covered by that.
One of the perks of dropping $6k on this engine and transmission.
I had to remind the finance guy peddling extended warranties of that nuance.
I guess if a bunch of people wanted to protest the honor of being on “the list,” they could print out the recall notice, tape it to their window like a Monroney sticker, and all go park at once in the lot of a CDJR dealership that doesn’t have any vehicles to sell.
I hate to rain on your fantasy, but I suspect those EV “greenies,” that you speak of, are no more going to welcome the diesel dinosaurs on a trail with pristine air anymore than many of us currently find the guys “rolling coal” on the roadways amusing.
I’ll add some more thoughts to that with...
Is anyone else start to connect some possible dots here?
By that, I mean, first comes the news that the 3.0L diesel engine is being discontinued in the RAM 1500 and the Jeep Wrangler. Then shortly later, a recall notice about the HPFP replacement comes out.
In a world where parts shortages is...
I downloaded it today from the Apple app store, so it should be on Google’s equivalent also.
It used the same login and password that I have for the Uconnect app. In fact, it won’t let you create another account if you’re already setup on Uconnect.
