I'm hoping the service advisor means he just forgot what he was told - I imagine the tech wrote it all down... right? I mean, I can't imagine they can escalate something like this without data. I'll keep everybody posted. D:
Quick update - they've run a compression test and are now performing a leak down test. I asked them for the compression numbers, and they said they didn't have them readily available to give to me. Waiting for a call back before close today, hopefully.
Again, would have been nice to have had...
Sorry, but you don't have to tear an engine down to do a compression check. Maybe they save themselves a tiny bit of labor, but it seems to me that a flash of the PCM makes sense - but why not also check something that is pretty blatantly obvious? How would a flash of the PCM fix what many are...
Did you receive/sign any paperwork with the price you'd be paying when you ordered? The dealer should be able to honor that regardless of if it's a 2020/2021 - from what I understand, that pricing is fixed once the order is entered and accepted.
The really, really unfortunate thing here is Jeep and @JeepCares know what is going on. They know all of our Gladiators experiencing the same exact symptoms (and a bunch of Wranglers on the Wrangler forums experiencing these same symptoms) are related to the same exact issue, and instead of...
That's what the dealer I went to did first as well - just a flash. I asked them to do the compression test, but they said they have to follow Jeep's order of repair and can't deviate. So, they have to at least try that first PCM flash and hope it works before they do anything else.
It looks...
Yep, you hit the nail on the head with the "rich smell of an old car with the choke on too far". Unburnt fuel washing the cylinder walls is not a good thing.
I just dropped the Gladiator back off at the dealership. It's still got a super rough cold start after the PCM flash from August 28th, and now it's got that awesome unburnt fuel smell. I told them it's showing the P0300 again for multiple cylinder misfires, and is now also showing another...
Just added my 21 Gladiator Rubicon EcoDiesel VIN! I noticed there aren't currently any EcoDiesels being tracked... I only see a split between the 3.6 and the 2.0 turbo. Will the system update to show EcoDiesel once my build populates?
Quick update on mine - I took it in for the P0300 code, but I just checked the codes from the CEL thrown the other day and I have one active code - P0300 - and two pending codes - P0300 and P0304.
When I started it and saw the CEL fire, I smelled unburnt fuel, so it's definitely misfiring...
My CEL fired again this morning at 16,725 miles after another rough cold start. D:
Edit: They flashed my PCM at 16,474 miles, so I made it about 200 miles before ESS started acting up again and a whopping 251 miles until the CEL threw again. I guess it's time to make another appointment.
Thanks for this detail! They didn't do a compression test - they literally saw the TSB and flashed the PCM and weren't willing to look further because, "this TSB takes care of it!" D:
I guess they'll be testing my compression soon enough now that the ESS lights are starting up again.
My ESS/auto start stop light came back on yesterday after a pretty rough cold start. :( This is just over 200 miles from when they flashed my PCM. 16,777 miles is when the ESS disabled light came back on. No CEL thrown again yet, but I know it's coming. :(
Quick update for everyone on my situation - after the latest PCM flash on August 28th, I haven't had any issues. Engine feels ridiculously peppy.
I'm wondering if they tuned up some of the injectors on the side with low compression to try and compensate for the issues they've seen... is that...
It's running peppy as hell - like, almost too much response when I start from a stop to the point that it feels kind of jerky. This might be what people are talking about when they drive a Gladiator that feels wayyyy more responsive than theirs which is throwing the CEL. Maybe this is the power...
I'm honestly not holding my breath.
I already ordered a replacement - 2021 JT Rubi EcoDiesel. I just need this fix to hold out until ShitStorm V2.0 arrives. lolol
