I read for days before buying my diesel gladiator.
I did see some reports of some overheating situations, but others that stated things work great. I don't think it's fair to say I didn't do my research. I saw many posts from forum members towing things they shouldn't and it doing alright. I...
I actually think there are improvements that can be made with the radiator, oil cooler, fan, hood. The trans oil cooler actually already has an upgrade option.
The problem is staying at peak toque results in a derate, as the engine cant contend with the heat that is produced while producing that much power over time. They use software tricks (derate) to prevent you as a user from overheating and melting down. I am thankful for those software engineers...
At elevation, there is less 'air' moving through the heat exchange units at the front of the vehicle, and the vehicle does have less air to charge the cylinders with (forced induction does help here some, but efficiency is not 100%).
The issue is IMO the radiators are not sufficiently sized to...
Agreed, when I purchase any towing vehicle I always aim to only tow up to 60% of the max tow rating. Longevity/ vehicle stress are real concerns.
I started this thread due to the stark performance differences I experienced when comparing it to my 4.0L Tacoma which has a similar rating. (6400)...
I had an email chain back and forth with TFL.
Hmm very interesting, and I am looking forward to the video! Hope we see one soon!
………………………… Tommy at TFL
We have towed quite heavy with a Gladiator diesel before and didn't notice any temp fluctuations,
Next time we have one we'll try it up the...
I would love to hear jeeps response here as well, I reached out to the TFL guys, I would love to see how the diesel gladiator does climbing the IKE. I am betting it will be one of the worst performing midsize trucks on the IKE (in the summer) and a strong contender in the winter.
FYI my climb...
A bit of an update!!!
I put on 1000 miles over the past week and this time tried the hill climb again.
I this time stayed in manual 5th, stayed about 50-53 mph, rolled all the Windows down, max heat.
oil temp = 238
water temp = 232
trans = 205-210
totally fine, no derate, no issues at all...
Hey all!
We all know how short the upstroke is on the diesel gladiators rubicon from the factory, we all find ourselves crashing on them on speed bumps, and other road abnormalities and especially offroad...
Has anybody installed the terraflex 1.5" leveling kit and NOT installed the bumpstop...
Depending on the weight you tow, and the frontal area of the toy hauler do your research. I had a supercharged tacoma for a bit, I can tell you towing it had more power, but it did not improve gear hunting, and the fuel costs go way up having to run premium. Also all that extra fuel burnt leads...
I have hit 290-300 in my miata on track. In short sustained periods, and is not running at that temp all the time. I do agree to some extent and will likely do 5k oil changes during summer season / towing.
I am not sure if it has been discussed, but I am curious if anybody has done any testing with the AEM intake that 'should' fit the 3.0 combined with a muffler delete pipe (catback).
I am curious if reducing restrictions may help reduce EGT (due to less restrictions).
I am not interested in...
I took a look on the map for your geo point, and altitude, that was flat land and your temps were tht high, I can see your AC is on Max as well.
Do you have this happen if you turn off the A/C?
Just curious.
Tore apart the trailer axles, there is nothing anywhere that is causing drag, I did find some bad seals which got greese on the trailer brake shoes, so those will get replaced this weekend but zero drag. Just like you if towing when hot, the Jeep lacks in performance big time.
Colorado is full...
