I think the big thing to realize is that the derate, isn't hurting anything, it's just keeping stuff safe! so if a derate happens it's more of a saftey issue / annoyance.
The engine is not going to let you destroy it.
Hey there. Yes Mine was 100% stock and had derates when towing, that's what started this thread.
Many of us have derated while NOT towing anything. It's common.
Try this, on a 100 degree day go for a hilly drive, then go to a fuel station and shut down the engine. Fill up then try to get up to...
My question is proving it. There seems to be no metric or pid I can find to indicate the engine is in a derate state….
The closest I can find it actual engine torque / driver demand torque.
I can log those, and during derate you do see actual not align.
Let us know what happens!!!, I called and chatted with Kate, she was very nice.
She let me know there was nothing to do at this point as it was submitted to jeep engineering. She said if there was any update / TSB... She would post here. I haven't seen anything yet, and frankly / honestly I'll...
I have added a few dashes, and dialed in the guage's a lot more!!!
You can now monitor soot levels, regen, DEF tank level, DEF tank temp, DEF quality issues, etc.
dashboard.json
Enjoy!
I really think the derates are EGT / Inlet temp focused.
For instance I have derated after pulling out from a fuel station, oil temps in the 230's. I have also derated at an oil temp of 260 climbing a grade with a trailer..
If you download the gauges I posted awhile ago you can see the...
Yeah there is no reason to install the bump stop extensions if you stay stock size tires. I would have left mine out as well!
I really think getting some hydraulic bump stops would make it so much better... But grabbing a saw and cutting up my new jeep isn't something I will do quite yet :-)
FYI many of us derate without towing.
No load, not driving like ass… nothing out of a normal.
glad it was just me in the car…. I got lucky there wasn’t an 18 wheeler hauling ass right towards me.
jeep needs to patch this thing and notify the driver when it’s in a derate state.
Once a Few...
Yeah I agree some software updates are absolutely needed.
today was hot and the Jeep heat soaked, and was unable to go over 45mph on the on-ramp, no load behind the Jeep, line of cars behind me. About the time I was merging on the highway full power came back…..
I did snag a tazer mini, the...
The charge pipes have ports in them! I have been doing some research on how to best adapt a water injection kit to cool EGR's on long uphill grades while towing.
Would you take a peak at the charge pipes (the side running into the engine, Not the hot side) and let me know what ports are...
Hey I have posted some dashboards that have EGT’s IAT’s soot, regen status, etc.
look at my posts or dm me they work awesome
You just need a Bluetooth (LE+) and iPhone (or android)
Hey dan! I’m interested, but honestly the payload cap per tire Is 2950, even at max payload in your bed you are still within margins by a lot.
These tires will tow fine, but they would be noisy.
How many miles are on them?
To clarify, I haven’t changed anything, I just removed the plastic cover to have a look, I haven’t changed or messed with anything I just noticed this when looking at how pipes are routed…
Reduction of restriction pre turbo reduces turbo strain (some) as well as increases the amount of air reaching the cylinder. High EGT's are a sign of richer air / fuel ratios.
Increasing air in the cylinder reduces the amount of unburned fuel hitting hot exhaust manifolds etc and combusting...
If the stock airbox is a restriction.... (which I think it is due to the inlet), but I haven't tested by driving with the hood off, that actually might be a good idea..... hmmmm)
Adding additional air will absolutely reduce EGT's.
The water/meth cooler injected post intercooler, not pre...
You are having an issue very similar to me (and most of us), but in my case it's with a trailer.
FYI these gauges only tell a little bit of the story.... The other more important part is EGT and IATs...
The EcoDiesel 3.0 can hit nearly 1600F EGT when towing a load (that's really high) Aluminum...
Ok, I just pulled a 3400lb load up a 7% grade for 7 miles i70 in Colorado.
I had my Bluetooth module capturing all data points.
The issue is Extended time high EGTs. This little 3.0 is a hot engine…..
Bigger turbo
Intake
Water/meth.
Are all things on my mind..
