That's exactly what I've been doing. If it were something that was a wear item, I wouldn't expect them to take responsibility. Considering this is clearly a design flaw and a major safety issue, I feel like it needs to be shared far and wide.

Clean it real good with electronics cleaner and if that doesn't work try some pb blaster. The release clip on these won't pull all the way back and/ or they break trying to force them over a tiny bit of dirt. If you leverage the opposite side of the plug as you press the tab and pull might help...
