  1. Front row third "jump seat" in a JT?

That is exactly where the child seat was mounted for our adventure through 12 countries on three continents. Now I'm looking to do something new, exploring options. -Dan
  2. Front row third "jump seat" in a JT?

Yep, it has a pass through. -Dan
  3. Front row third "jump seat" in a JT?

With a ton of Googling for options this morning I'm thinking that it may work to offset the jump seat behind the two front seats. Buy a very high quality jump seat, and bolt it down straight through the steel tub using grade 8 bolts - it would be as strong as the two front ones. This...
  4. Front row third "jump seat" in a JT?

The rear seat isn't going back in. Also, I'm not saying I'm 100% going to do this and make a death trap. I'm asking if anyone else has seen or done anything and if there is a workable option. It's OK to discuss thoughts and ideas, even if they are ultimately bad ones. -Dan
  5. Front row third "jump seat" in a JT?

Sadly I cut mine in half, so it doesn't. -Dan
  6. Front row third "jump seat" in a JT?

I'm not asking for the JT specifically, more-so the JL. But because they're the same I wanted to ask more people. The solution could be the same between them, so I was wondering if anyone has done it for either. -Dan
  7. Front row third "jump seat" in a JT?

I agree there are safety concerns, which is why I'm investigating and trying to learn what is possible. As for children being required to sit in the back, that is only true if there is a back. In vehicles that don't have a backseat that does not apply. I'll also be in countries that have no...
  8. Front row third "jump seat" in a JT?

Here's a generic Jump Seat that is 8 inches across. (20 cm) https://www.amazon.ca/Ride-USA-Extra-Narrow-Pick-up-Truck/dp/B09XWK1215 The gap between the two front seats on a JL/JT is around 10 inches (26cm) hmmm. -Dan
  9. Front row third "jump seat" in a JT?

I think if the seat was rear facing it would be fine. I'll see if I can dig up a photo of the airbags at full deploy to see how much "coverage" they have. -Dan
  10. Front row third "jump seat" in a JT?

Yes, I'd like to try and get a child seat mounted there. At first it would be rear facing, though down the road I expect we may spin it around and make it front facing. It seems there are plenty of "generic" ISOFIX/LATCH mounting plates like this -...
  11. Front row third "jump seat" in a JT?

Hi Everyone, I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen the centre console replaced with a jump seat, or some kind of folding seat in the middle between the two front seats on a JT or JL ? I know the handbrake will be an issue, and the gearshift maybe too. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever...
  12. Front bench seating by installing a jump seat?

One great thing is the trans shifter is just a CAN device... so if you extend the wiring harness you can put it anywhere you want.. there are no physical linkages to the trans. The handbrake and transfer case shifter are a different story though. -Dan
  13. 2-Door Gladiator

Here's my frame mounted camper on my JLU. It's actually bonded to the forward cab, so it's not separate. I took it to 12 countries on three continents, it was great. My box is 6 feet wide and 7.5 feet long. If you did a 2 door Gladiator you should be able to add a foot or two on the length...
  14. RTT and canopy turned camper

I can't wait to see this come together!! -Dan
  15. My Custom JL Rubicon Overland Camper Build - Refuge II Camper

Hi All, The Roof of the camper is 6 feet wide and 7.5 feet long, and on this episode @wabi_sabi_overland teaches me a ton more about working with composites as we custom make a roof to meet our needs - as light as possible while also being rigid and have a really good R insulation value. We...
  16. honeycomb aluminum in base and roof of RTT's

You're crazy! ( haha, I joke ) I like the sound of what you have planned, but unfortunately I have absolutely zero experience with the honeycomb aluminium. I've only just recently learned about fibreglass and carbon composites and honeycomb, so I'm very new to that as well. I see no reason...
  17. My Custom JL Rubicon Overland Camper Build - Refuge II Camper

Hi Everyone, The build continues! In this update we make a custom moulded fibreglass part to join the Jeep forward cab to the camper box, bond in the forward floor, finish off wiring and add a raised air intake with dust pre-filter. It's really coming along! The build on the JL Camper...
  18. My Custom JL Rubicon Overland Camper Build - Refuge II Camper

The flex that yours has and allows for is a totally different beast than if we cut off the back of the Gladiator behind the front doors and permanently bonded on a camper like we have done in the Wrangler. It allows for exactly no flex or twist, and any could tear it in half. That is not a...
  19. My Custom JL Rubicon Overland Camper Build - Refuge II Camper

For sure I think it *could* be done with a Gladiator, but as I said, there are two major reasons why we didn't got that route: 1. The whole frame flex and "will it tear itself in half" thing. This project is already BIG and expensive and has quite a few risks, and we decided to draw the line...
  20. My Custom JL Rubicon Overland Camper Build - Refuge II Camper

You're absolutely right that it can't do that. And I have no need for it to do that, so buying a vehicle that can makes no sense. Remember, there is no such thing as "perfect", because everyone's needs are different. Buy and build the vehicle that is right for you and your needs and where you...
