I drilled mine, but the bolt is hardened and dulled my crappy drill bits fast. I finally spun it off by rotating the whole bracket, and cussing at it a lot....
I have that setup. That middle countersunk bolt is made of butter and has loctite on it. It's almost guaranteed to round out. If it does you can try spinning it off enough to loosen it by rotating the whole bracket after you have the smaller two screws off. If that doesn't work you may have...
Have they diagnosed the weird noise? They shouldn't be asking for oil change records unless it's an internally lubricated engine part failure and there's evidence of neglect.
Not ridiculous to get annoyed at that at all, that's lazy B.S.. I'll bet the tech flagged for it also. Obviously the whole point is so that keep wearing evenly, if you wait until you see uneven wear to rotate them you're too late.
I'm planning on doing Rimrocker starting June 3rd starting on the Montrose side. I hope it's open by then!! Planning for 3 days on the trail camping at Ballpark and Buckeye along the way. This will be my first time on the trail, and my first time to Colorado/Utah.
Thanks for the suggestions, great info!!
I'll check Fins and Things out also, and Hurrah Pass and Chicken Corners. We also plan to do some hiking at Canyonland NP..... this trip is 40% about offroading, and ~60% about taking in the scenery and nature, so scenic nature takes slight priority for...
I'm finding a lot of write-ups about the trail. It looks awesome. Not as challenging as I was hoping for on this trip, but that may be a good thing since I'm a bit of a novice and I won't be in a group. The only long distance wheeling trip I've got under my belt so far was to Big Bend doing...
That is freakin' awesome!! I'll have to check that out after I complete Rimrocker. For dispersed campsites with no bathrooms of any kind I'll have to figure out a potty system that the wife is ok with......
Great info, thanks for the detailed response. I may just have to do SW Colorado stuff at another time and take this chance to do Rimrock trail and Moab stuff. Hopefully trail conditions there will be good when I go. This will also be a good learning opportunity for me to make adjustments to...
The wife and I are driving to Morrison, CO for a concert at Red Rocks Ampitheatre on June 2nd, so I'm taking this opportunity to turn the trip into our first "overlanding/wheeling" adventure. We're newbs to this, so I could use a little guidance.
I had hoped to camp near Telluride and Ouray...
You won't need to replace anything steering-wise on a 3.5" lift, but depending on the brand of lift and how much they over deliver on their advertised lift height, you may need a front driveshaft. Definitely get front and rear adjustable track bars to center your axles back up and adjustable...
The only thing "special" about the Willys edition in the suspension department is the red shocks, which I believe are just JL style Rubi shocks, and nothing great. Everything else is just standard sport edition suspension stuff.
The "before" measurements were likely taken after the new parts were installed, so the caster numbers were probably lower before the new control arms, plus centering up the axle with the new adjustable track bar. Those two things plus getting the toe set right would def make a lot of difference.
Not bad. Luckily I was able to find a used one locally for $1100 but it wasn't perfect. I'm going to keep my hardtop for winter use for now. I may end up getting tired of it taking up room and sell it, we'll see....
Having a tonneau cover makes removing the top a piece of cake by myself. I just unbolt the top, flip it backwards, onto a blanket laid on the tonneau cover. Slide it off the back, drop the tailgate, grab the top underneath and carry it into the garage.
