  1. Will 38's kill my gas milage?

Regrettable truth having been stated by others braver than me…some of the most senoir contributors on this forum love spreading their cool-AIDS. “It’s not strange, it’s normal behavior man”. Best to use your your own best judgment on what’s actually cool, ethical, and productive for human...
  2. Gladiator is crap for towing

The Gladiator is not a great heavy tow vehicle. That’s true no matter what factory tow options you have. People will allege that MaxTow is the ticket, but from experience, it’s only going to keep you road legal for the higher rated weight and does not appreciably increase the tow performance...
  3. Is this spark knock??

Just to clarify, I run regular fuel and do not get detonation normally. If you determine you do have spark knock, my suspicion would be something else may be out of range. I’d start with premium fuel, exclusively for diagnostic purposes. No matter what, I’d Italian tune-up it. That’s a...
  4. Is this spark knock??

Not great audio, but it does NOT sound like detonation to me. That sounds like your keys rattling or something swinging in your cab. Spark knock is usually a series of pings at the interval each piston is approaching TDC of the compression stroke. Maybe 2 to 3x faster than the noise I can hear...
  5. Will 38's kill my gas milage?

Lest we forget, they reduce mileage immediately… but very slowly, they kill your bearings, ball joints, steering systems, driveline, shocks and bushings, wear out your brakes more rapidly, increase stopping distances, decrease acceleration, may be illegal in some states, and yes, likely...
  6. Hurricane twin turbo - spotted in Grand Wagoneer

I love the 4.0 engine too. It was one of the engines that taught me that the automotive media were full to their throats with fecal material. They hated everything that didn’t come from Japan in the 80s and 90s. As a young man I couldnt believe how smooth and durable they were. They’d run 250k...
  7. My True Weight ? Shes Gettin Heavy!

For some context, I pulled this from RamdotCom. You’re heavy for a small truck, but still light and compact, relatively. Also some good context for when we get upset that our “weak” Pentastar can’t drag our fat-azz down a 10-second quarter mile.
  8. Blackstone Oil Analysis first report

Thanks for this. No new or contrary information in there, so I believe my understanding of Blackstone data remains accurate and the suggestions in my posts should be helpful to folks wanting to understand their UOA. Not everyone is an oil expert, so let's help each other out wherever we can...
  9. Blackstone Oil Analysis first report

Interesting thoughts Hootbro. Not to hijack the thread, but I think there's value in understanding how a reader should interpret their UOA. In terms of wear metals, like Fe, why would the data interpreter be in error for drawing a correlation between the quantity of Fe thrown off a...
  10. Oil leak from the front of JTR

First of all, where did you find a photo of me? Must have been a special occasion because I'm wearing my nice hat. Damn social media.
  11. Blackstone Oil Analysis first report

Agree with what the others have said. For another datapoint, here is mine representing a 6500mile OCI, from 2k-8500k mile period. Keep in mind you will need to normalize your individual data by dividing your PPM, with your miles of use. i.e. for my UOA: Fe = 39PPM / 6500 mile interval =...
  12. Oil leak from the front of JTR

It looks like the tech was a pig pen. Might suggest you spray it down with a can of brake-clean, starting from the filter housing and oil fill area. Let it have it really good, then dry with some paper towels, including where it runs off at the bottom.
  13. Noob Question: Does 4Hi cause MPG to drop?

Agree, this is likely the largest culprit. 1-1.5(-)mpg from driving the front gear train.
  14. Is the factory fill of the diffs and transfer case Synthetic oil?

100% true. I don't know the man or his intentions, so I will refrain from accusing him of intentional wrongdoing. Until he publishes his test specifications and methodology, his blog is just simple entertainment with no more truth than those peppered into the ramblings of a mad man. "0...
  15. Stellantis withdrawal from the North American auto show circuit.

When telling the truth in public is successfully labeled as “political” or “tin foil” language, we will have hit a troubling new level of thought-crime acceptance. Let’s try and avoid the Un-personing tendencies. Cheers!
  16. It’s normal???

100% normal. I spray mine with a lanolin or cosmoline protectant annually. I sprayed it directly into the split in the bar too. The lanolin seems to travel and wick better over time.
  17. Stellantis withdrawal from the North American auto show circuit.

The car show circuit is a complete waste of time and money. Auto enthusiasts and the media are the only attendees. Stellantis is simply saying, "hey, our car show boondoggle will effect exactly 0% of our 2024 sales so, --lets spend the cash on something more meaningful." Sounds like an adult...
  18. OK, what do you think of this gizmo??

Really. Is that value-add only available for the standard deduction, or will it itemize too? Can you ask it about a 1031 exchange... for a friend?
  19. OK, what do you think of this gizmo??

This is a vexing topic due to very selective information being cherry-picked and submitted in favor of this devices efficacy. I'm sure the guys at Baxter are very nice people, and their product appears to be a quality product. If it would bring you peace of mind to buy and install it --go for...
  20. Passenger side front, odd bracket on frame.

Well, the good news is that we know the bracket is intended to mitigate a perceived safety issue, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't cause harm by being there. I didn't see where anyone recommended it be removed. I'll keep mine until it becomes an obstacle to achieving a greater goal but...
