I love my diesel but this thread is funny. Reminds me of a forum thread I read about the new Defender and owners being excited because they had 10,000 miles and went a whole year without any issues. Duh, it's a new vehicle, it should do a lot more than that with no problems! A new Kia Sorento...
DEF being good for over 3 years would be news to me... everything I've read says within 1 year, or 2 under "ideal conditions." I'd be surprised if it was good longer, at least on the box.
My local Costco had AdBlue DEF on sale for the first time in a while so I picked up a box. However, it seems to have a new type of date code I haven't seen elsewhere. All the other guides to interpreting codes I've seen have a different code format... seems that they may have switched this year...
Soo what happened between the JK and JL that oil capacity changed? On both my previous JKs it was 6 quarts. Manuals side by side here:

I agree with the rest of your post but I disagree with the idea that wheeling without a winch makes you make better decisions. Why consciously choose to go out without something that could benefit you? Camping without a pocket knife might make me behave differently but that doesn’t mean it’s a...
Agree. I have synthetic rope and installed my winch on a stock plastic bumper. Added probably 50 lbs total between the winch and the material cut out of the OEM bumper. Much better than other options.
Do you ever wheel alone? If so, get one. Usually you can get by with reverse or a strap but if you’re leading a group, there are times it’s sure nice to have. I don’t “need” mine often but it’s saved my skin a few times. Most recently out in Moab by myself. There are certain situations it’s...
Diesel Filters Online. Not sure if they’re in stock currently but they get them every few months. I ordered 4 fuel filters and 4 oil filters last time they had them. Best prices around too. No offense to Doc’s but at least for the time being I’m not messing with aftermarket filters… even though...
What’s custom about it? 8274 is my favorite winch ever, surprised it had enough weight capacity to get you out of there but then again not really. They’re tanks.
It, and most other 4x4 vehicles, will go a lot farther than you think. Enough that your passengers will start to get nervous. Do yourself a favor and if you're gonna go much past 30, make sure you're on dirt so you at least have a soft landing if you flop. Speaking from experience...
I'm in the "learn to live with it" crowd. I just don't shoot gaps if it's really close. I kind of like the turbo lag... makes it feel like a rocketship when the turbo finally spools up a few seconds after giving it the beans.
The Viair portables are super nice. Onboard air has always sounded nice to me but I don't have the patience to try to mount it up and move it between trucks depending on what I decide to wheel so for me, having a portable is more than good enough.
Fwiw I am usually closer to 20 than 25 (call it 21 most days) around town. Lots of stop lights on my commute which are the real killer. I do see close to 30 on the highway so I think a lot of the variability you see on the forums relates to just how many stoplights folks have when they say...
