I did the same thing but with two speakers. I actually have three radios and will probably add a third speaker. Behind the drivers head is a great place as its very easy to hear and you can turn it down real low and not bother passengers.
A front windshield antenna is not that much of a compromise on FM but on AM you take a reception hit. The front windshield with collision avoidance package is already a stupid price, it cost me just under $1k and a couple of hours for the guy to recalibrate the collision avoidance stuff. Adding...
There are two operational Sirius/XM satellites and from Nashville the look angle to one is about 37deg up at a magnetic compass heading of 227 deg and the other is about 47deg up at 193 deg magnetic. With your antenna on the new mount below roof level I would expect some blockage to the...
And my JT Mojave was ordered in March, 2021.
The basic systems I've seen on this form show a different 3.5" speaker between the basic and Alpine Premium system I have, not counting head size. If the head and tuner/amp are separate why would they change speakers when changing head size? I...
I paid for an Alpine Premium system and there is a sub in the back and a 7" display. My build sheet shows Alpine Premium with 7" display and I personally measured all the 3.5" speakers at 4 ohms.
Speaker impedance can't be measured precisely with an ohmmeter, its an AC measurement and usually measured at 400Hz. An ohmmeter can get you close on some speakers but that is just voice coil resistance and not taking voice coil inductance and other things into consideration.
My JT has the 7"...
My JT has the Alpine Premium Audio System and the 3.5" speakers I replaced were all 4 ohm. I measured the speaker impedance with a Neutrik A2 audio analyzer.
I thought the original speakers were in the 4 ohm range and if so a 2 ohm speaker would not be the best idea. The speaker impedance should be matched to the amplifier impedance rating and maximum power transfer happens when source and load impedance is matched. Placing a 2 ohm load on an...
Oh no it has not! I have the premium system and it was very blah sounding or muffled in the mids and highs as others have reported. I replaced the top of dash and sound bar with some recommended Kenwood speakers and it’s improved in the midrange and highs but not what I would call great. These...
I have two radios under my rear seat, a Yaesu FTM-400 and an Icom 706MKIIG with the control heads on a RAM arm mount on the front of the center console. There are two plastic grommets on either side of the box to run cables in from under the vehicle and the hollow frame is a good place to run...
Here is my Laird mount which is typical of other brands I've used and they sit very flat on the hood or trunk and are very strong. The midland looks like its tilted up or maybe it got bent?
I have Laird hood mounts on both sides of the truck plus an NMO on the top bed rail below the rear window...
If you provide an adequate ground plane you can use any GMRS or UHF antenna and not be stuck shopping for a NGP type. A 12” round disc or square sheet is a good size ground plane for GMRS or make an X with some 2” wide aluminum tape that is 12” across with the mount in the middle.
I would not use a single counterpoise and use at least two or more “radials” heading in opposite directions or a 12” dia conductive sheet. Or a 12” long strip of 2” wide aluminum HVAC tape with the mount planted in the middle.
A single counterpoise will make a dipole (an inverted V dipole in...
You can get a thick mount NMO that has an N or SMA connector on the bottom side instead of permanently attached coax. For a no ground plane VHF or UHF antenna I would recommend installing three snap on ferrites of a #43 mix or Laird 28 mix near the mount as the no GP antennas mounted on an...
I’ve just installed a 50w Motorola QUANTAR repeater on GMRS to service the Big Bear Lake and surrounding mountain/desert areas of So Cal. The repeater is available for use to any GMRS licensed off road user for occasional use without any formal permission or fee. I just ask that all users are...
I have the more aggressive of the stock Falcon tires and I've seen most Jeeps have to pull over and install chains at the direction of CHP. The only time I got through without chains was driving an H1 Hummer with stock Goodyear Wrangler MTs which are not snow tires and the CHP officer walked...
I haven't seen any mention of how the Gladiator performs with snow chains. I have a '21 Mojave and will be spending some time in the So Cal mountains this winter around 7,000ft and they can get a lot of snow up there. During much of the winter our CHP requires snow tires or chains just to get...
