Most larger Anderson Power Poles mount to a flat surface, just look at any electric fork lift, they have an Anderson screwed down somewhere for battery charging. Here is one example and it could be screwed under the bumper or maybe you could make a right angle bracket that fits behind the bed...
For this I would recommend a separate and over rated relay like 200A triggered by one of the dash aux buttons and use at least 6ga wire and preferably larger. I would place the relay near the battery with large circuit breaker (100A?) and run the wires straight down into the front to rear...
I’ve been using these speakers and they sound very good and are small, not to mention very inexpensive. I have two hanging from the center roll bar thing in my JT right behind the drivers seat. That really cut down on complaints from the wifee about the radio blaring as the speakers are right...
The $13 Fleabay charger should work fine with the goalzero panels. It will handle up to 30A of charge current and will auto select between 12V and 24V systems. It does that by sensing battery voltage but I have accidently fooled it by having it connected to a solar panel producing about 21v...
The controller I posted has several different types of batteries you can program but the low voltage cutoff will never be used as this setup gets connected when I park for long periods and the battery should have a reasonable state of charge when I park. If I were going to run a bunch of ham...
My truck doesn't get driven much and I keep a solar panel and charge controller on it most of the time. I originally had a short cable with quick disconnect Anderson Power Poles from the battery to the front grille to connect my 60w panel and charge controller at the front of the truck but have...
I use Aircraft circuit breakers a lot and you can mount several in a box like this. If you make an oopsie you don’t have to search for a fuse, just push the reset button.
I looked through the MXT275 manual and don't see a scan function for CTCSS or DPL but you might be able to go into the privacy code menu and manually scroll through them all when someone else is talking and find their code. For this to work the radio cannot be in monitor mode where it will hear...
Yes you might be able to go through a repeater on your ch 19 if your in range and you have programmed the correct CTCSS or DPL code along with the channel. There are 38 CTCSS codes and 104 DPL codes available in your radio and if you didn't program the right one its doubtful you would access the...
Looks like an old FAC setup for a HUMVEE using some PRC-113s, SINCGARS and a PRC-104 HF exciter in possibly a Harris adapter/mount. Where did all the crypto gear go? Anyway I believe your setup is probably working as expected for the radio and antenna you have based on the 1mi range you got to...
They come and go for various good prices. When I need something like this I check eBay several times a day and will usually get what I want within a week or two.
A mile range to an FRS radio is actually very good. For someone to hear you on FRS or GMRS you must not only be on the same channel but also have the same CTCSS or DCS tone to open up their speaker. Most GMRS comms are via a high site repeater. So are you calling people using the correct tone or...
Hmm, I’ve never used a Midland mount and usually go for Laird or Larsen or Maxrad. It could be the set screws on those sit further back on the bottom ridge. Check out my post #10 in this thread showing my current Laird mount I got off eBay for about $20. It sits very flat.
It should sit flat. I see a gap between the back edge of the hood lip and the inside edge of the mount so try to seat the mount right up against the hood lip. That might tilt the mount down flat or the rubber on the bottom of the mount could be causing a problem and maybe trimming a little off...
The various chunks of aluminum tubing will also act as an RF choke on the coax. Not that you need it but its interesting, can't say I've ever seen that in a mobile install.
I’ve made UHF dipoles to stick to the inside of windows from about 24ga wire but thicker like 14 or 12ga would be better for a 50watt radio and would be a little wider bandwidth. This type of antenna should work great inside a fiberglass camper as long as the paint is non metallic.
I usually...
You could make a 1/2 wave center fed dipole for GMRS out of wire, about 12” tall as you mentioned and stick it to the inside back window with clear packing tape. Just bring the coax out the side for a foot or two sideways before heading downwards so it doesn’t mess up the radiation pattern too...
Some of the trusted commercial brands are Larsen, Laird, PCTEL, EM Wave and a few others. Brands like Midland and Tram/Browning target the commercial market but their products are way inferior to the real commercial/public service brands.
That’s a complex question and will vary with different antennas and mounting locations. This will probably go long so lets start with a perfect flat infinite size ground plane made of copper. I’m talking covering your entire city in copper sheet then plant your antenna in the middle. That will...
