I tend to use Apple maps. I can get that app to repeat verbal directions. Google Waze and Maps don’t seem to be able to do that. This is a feature users have asked for over many years but Google says they won’t add it. I keep looking for the best voice app nav so I don’t have to take my eyes off...
I have no love for dealerships these days. I will point out that this is now the model year ttick-over. Your trade in is now likely considered another year older. Whether they just overlooked this possibility of delivery spanning the model year or just being sleazy, I can’t say. My experience...
I didn’t like ESS much from rental car experience but have given it an open minded shot. I like it less and less each time I drive I leave it active. Mine is being subjected to Houston summer and just doesn’t stay off long enough to help. Maybe up to 30 seconds but normally much less. I’m...
The sound at and such have been redesigned over the years. My 2012 was still more of a hollow box than the newer systems which have more reinforcement and isolation. It is my understanding that they have engineered pods into the system. Interesting what will be found when a JT system gets opened up.
The JT audio is so much better than my JK. The sound bar and everything is different. I don’t think there is a need for the polyfill stuffing. The Bluetooth speaker isn’t part of the cabin audio. It is just for outside use with your phone or whatever. You aren’t missing anything inside...
Having the speaker play when docked is rather pointless. The location behind the seat is a horrible spot for a non-sub speaker. The speaker is meant to be used outside paired with a phone or the like, not the in-dash JT radio.
@Godfadr nailed it. I took my speaker in the house to give it a good look over while having a cup of coffee and my iPad handy for research. Powered on, pressed the Bluetooth button for 5 to 10 seconds. I heard a beep and saw it appear in my iPhone Bluetooth devices. Done in under a minute just...
The Otterbox case I use won’t fit. I’m going with the 67 Designs. It would be nice to route the cable behind the dash and not have it hanging over the center stack.
No. Again, what I heard out of mine was some kind of leakage audio. I had an FM HD station playing in the truck when I did the test. If you lay a speaker wire alongside a 12v power wire, you will be able to see a small amount of audio being coupled into that 12v power wire. I suspect what I...
I just tested mine. I can barely hear anything from it when I drop the seat and stick my ear within a foot of it. It is very faint and thin. It is nothing like the full audio from my phone. It sounds like what we called “leakage” back in my broadcast days. There is no volume setting for it in...
I’m not sure it does anything when docked. The location behind the seat won’t allow it to contribute to the cab audio. The mids and highs would be muffled and though it is a decent boomy Bluetooth speaker it is not a real sub.
You do pay extra for the factory fit, but it is a good little speaker. Here are some pics. I only had a yardstick handy for measurements so they are close but not precise.
The unit is 9-7/8“ long, 5-1/2” tall, 2-3/4” deep
I included a shot of the back for the contact and latch positions. The...
While I don’t hate ESS like I hate telemarketers, it does bother me. I see where others say it really isn’t noticeable but I can definitely feel the truck shudder when it starts. The delay is not horrible but still more than what gives me comfort. I don’t believe the math works as far as being...
I don’t like it. A running engine in Houston traffic is a comfort to me and I can easily imagine a failed restart at an inopportune time. The default state should be programmable and let the button on the dash toggle it. The engineer in me cringes at all the extra stress of stop, start on the truck.
