I'm coming from a slightly different perspective . . . I wanted a fun vehicle that was also practical. we have a full size truck, and I did not want another full size. Also, I wanted something that I would drive all year, even though we have a long snow/salt season. Finally, I did not want...
Thanks for the video! I've been looking at other videos too, and, if you want to insert these, it sure makes sense to do it early before the old ones have corroded!
I used to have my Valentine hardwired near the mirror too. But I found it distracting and a pain to mute. Went 6 years with it mounted on the lower left corner of the windshield, which is really handy. But happy with the dash mount for now. Easy to mute, and not in the way when driving...
LOL guys, I doubt I would have bought one for the JT, but I had one sitting around from the car I traded in on the JT so I thought i would install it.
Very happy with the trade! The C7 is just so limited here in MN. Bad roads can trash the expensive wheels. Touch a curb and you are out a...
Just wanted to share an alternative RD mount that I came up with. I have never been a fan of mounting near the mirror, as I think it cuts some of the view and is a pain to mute when wanted. I noticed the cell phone options from Bulletpoint (LINK) and thought this might work great for my...
Thanks for the reply! Just a wild guess, but I would think we see a way different winter than you do. You would be amazed at the amount of salt we use. Annoying but a fact of life up here.
Minnesota spreads a lot of salt in the winter! Did any of you living in the northern states preemptively replace the door hinge liners on your new Jeep with Delrin? Thought it might make sense before the originals get stuck in place. I doubt that I will be taking my doors off very often.
OK, last post for those that might be interested in the future. I think the weatherstrip design has changed since Bestop came out with the instructions. Here are a couple clips from their installation on a JT a few years ago. Note that the flap causing the flap (sorry!) is not evident...
Here is a response from Bestop: "The door rail should sit inside the mucket seal, if the seal is pinched it will cause the top to leak. "
Still not sure what is best, but would be interested to see how a few more have handled this.
Interesting that almost no one brings this up in the videos. Early videos, where the Sunrider rails fit into a rubber channel do mention the topic, but not later ones. Just watched a few more videos, and it's almost even between pushing that rubber behind the rail or letting it rest on the...
Not sure if this applies, but in the earlier videos I saw the rubber was more of a u shaped channel than a flap. So the side rails fit right in. Somewhere along the line Jeep changed the design a little.
Interesting--one of the videos I did not see before. Now I'm really confused! The only problem I ran into the first time is that after installing the top, those rubber deflectors in the front do not lay flat like they do in the video. So when I shut the door they get, for lack of a better...
Thanks guys looks like just a few minutes more in the garage. Just took a test drive--this is great! Really quiet, no air leaks, easy operation.
PS: Thanks for the photo!
Just installed my Sunrider and it's great! But I had one question. I watched numerous videos, etc, but most are rather old and the door molding/weather stripping seems to have been changed on recent models.
I wanted to make sure that the rubber flap I circled here was not supposed to be...
Sunrider just arrived and installed! Black top looks great with Sarge Green. First test drive was two thumbs up (my wife and I). Kudos to the forum for the tip of dropping the rear windows just a bit to reduce cabin turbulence.
