  1. Shorter bed now available

I hear "just get a JL" a lot on here. The funny thing is.... on the trails all the holes are where JL and JK wheelbases have tore up the trail. My bobbed JT just rolls right through all of those obstacles, while the built JK/JLs in our group always get stuck... My truck also climbs better, I...
  2. Cigarette Lighter Removal

They are super easy to install :)
  3. Practical Truck for the Over Prepared Woman

The Jeep gods did indeed smile upon me! The problem was identified as the oil cooler. Independent research shows that was a JK problem too :( The surprising thing was how the dealer replaced it no questions asks, even when my truck showed up muddy: Big thumbs up for Umansky of...
  4. Practical Truck for the Over Prepared Woman

Had a bad day. Was driving the truck on errands this morning (prior to a planned wheeling trip tomorrow) and the dreaded CEL showed up. Pulled over and checked under the hood. Oil was visible on top of the engine and opening the oil fill port showed smoke inside. Shortly after stopping, oil was...
  5. Anybody got these seat covers?

I love that the before and after are completely different vehicles! Those seat covers are so good it will turn your Honda into a Mercedes!
  6. Hydro assist

I installed hydro assist recently as part of supporting mods for running 40s. It’s been off-road twice this month so far and I can confidently say hydro assist is awesome! … but far from essential. One important lesson is learning when not to use it. Sometimes it’s better to back up and...
  7. Rear antirock - who has it??

I would say that with the rear anti-rock, I'd also be hesitant to recommend towing anything heavy. A small trailer when going offroad would be ok, but anything more could get scary fast. The front sway bar disconnect helps keeps things a bit more controlled (reducing oversteer), but for towing...
  8. Rear antirock - who has it??

I have front and rear anti-rock, and tried the stock electronic disconnect with the rear anti-rock for a while. The stock disconnect + rear anti-rock doesn't change on-road driving that much, but with both installed you can feel a difference when driving on the road. It doesn't feel unsafe, but...
  9. Practical Truck for the Over Prepared Woman

Another weekend of offroading and some lessons learned. After trying a couple lines with fairly big rocks I noticed the bracket connecting the ram to the axle was starting to bend. This was a custom job, so I was kinda expecting something to go wrong... but I wasn't expecting this to be the...
  10. 3D printed connector covers

For many terminals, you can just buy the opposing connector and put a little glue in it to seal where the wires would normally go in. I'm all for 3D printing things, but that will likely be a bit of work and its jumping into the deep end.
  11. 4" or 6" lift? This is my first Jeep, so many options.

I ran a 3.5 inch lift with 37s very successfully for a couple years, and that was with the Jeep conquering a lot of off-road terrain. I suggest you find the lightest tires you can find (milestar pats or similar) and the lightest wheels (Method 703s are light and have bead grip), then try that...
  12. Practical Truck for the Over Prepared Woman

I appreciate it, but I’m far from the first to do this. I do like mine better than their prototype though :)
  13. Is there a stubby antenna available that doesn't suck?!

I still run my OEM antenna since its a great solution to help test for low hanging obstacles. It's been beat up by branches, low hanging pipes/signs in garages, and garage doors. It hasn't broke yet.
  14. Bed Chop??!!!

At least Jeep acknowledges the bed bangs on rocks. I saw their post this morning and thought: Hey! Mine is better than the Jeep prototype! Go me! At least I have a tailgate and can fit a cooler back there with my spare and air compressor :)
  15. JT: Reliability

About 2.5 years now. Nearing 30k miles. Wow! Zero problems. Correction: Zero problems not caused by me.
  16. Practical Truck for the Over Prepared Woman

Thanks, I was bummed I couldn't make it up the previous weekend with you all! I hope that went well and you had better weather. We ended the weekend winching up BFG due to all the rain :/ Not that I'm complaining, any weekend on the trail is a good one.
  17. Practical Truck for the Over Prepared Woman

Regarding knuckles: I did like that I was able to flip the draglink without using my flip adapter. I didn't notice the extra weight at all, and the orange gives me serious trail cred I guess... Other than that, can't rate the knuckles. The aluminum ones I removed were still in great shape...
  18. Practical Truck for the Over Prepared Woman

Got to test everything out on the rocks this weekend. It was... AMAZING! We spent most of the weekend on blacks and reds at Rausch. The 40s + 4.5" lift are just big enough to avoid hitting the armor under the truck going through most obstacles. Break over angle was not a problem at all, and I...
  19. Going East!

Pennsylvania and Virginia both have some great overlanding spots and some solid offroad trails. We've also found that the Finger Lakes in NY is an amazing area to visit. Cherry Springs is an excellent dark sky zone if you like the stars. Bald Mountain makes a great overland stopover point if...
  20. Practical Truck for the Over Prepared Woman

Last week was a big week of projects: * Reid knuckles installed * Synergy Ball Joints installed * 4.5" Coils swapped * Swapped the SteerSmarts Trackbar brace for the Synergy Trackbar brace. I went with EVO HD 4.5 coils up front and the Rock Krawler 4.5" coils in the back. I left the 3/4"...
